Instructions for connecting Wi-Fi from various devices. How to connect and configure a Wi-Fi router? Step-by-step instructions for all models How to set up Wi-Fi on a computer and laptop

The Belarusian Internet provider Garant has a large number of tariff plans. They differ not only in the bandwidth, but also in the technology of connecting to the network. In addition to Internet access, the company also provides other telecommunications services: IP-TV and laying communication lines.

Connecting the router to the provider Garant

Cable laying in the house or apartment of the subscriber is carried out by the master of the Garant company. The connection uses a standard network cable (UTP). The connector at its end must be inserted into a port on the router, which is usually labeled "Internet" or "WAN". Some router models do not have labels indicating port types. In this case, use the outermost port that differs in color or distance from the rest of the connectors.

In the remaining ports, connect home devices that need Internet access without Wi-Fi. If the device can establish both types of connections (via wired or wireless network), it is better to connect it with a cable. This connection provides higher speed and resistance to interference. When all the wires are connected, plug the power supply of the Wi-Fi router into a power outlet and press the power button. Downloading and establishing a connection will take some time - from 5 to 30 seconds, depending on the device model.

Important! You can not use the router if Wi-Fi is not needed, and only one computer is used to access the network. In this case, the cable can be connected directly to the Ethernet port on the computer's network card.

Further settings depend on the selected tariff plan A that defines the connection type. There are five different groups in the Garant tariff line, three of which are used most often:

  • "Optimal" - Internet speed: from 3 to 10 Mbps, the IPoE connection standard is used.
  • "Giant" - throughput depends only on the capabilities of the network. There is a limit on monthly traffic at maximum speed.
  • "Hit" - the speed is 25 or 50 Mbps, the connection is made through a VPN. After using the allocated amount of traffic, the speed decreases.

Configuring an IPoE connection

On some wifi router ah, the IPoE protocol is used by default. Therefore, when using tariffs with this type of connection, you will not need to further configure the Internet Garant. It remains only to set the Wi-Fi parameters: region, SSID (network name), encryption type and password. This is done through the browser, in the administrative interface of the router. AT address bar enter the IP address found on the bottom of the machine. Go to this address and log in with the login and password that are printed on the device under the IP.

If there is no Internet access, the standard technology on your router is different from IPoE. Open the tab or menu item of the web interface responsible for the global network settings. For example, on TP-Link Wi-Fi devices, this is “Network -> WAN”. In the drop-down list, select the connection type "Dynamic IP address" and click the "Save" button. A message will appear at the top of the window asking you to restart the router. Confirm the restart, then wait for the restart and check the Internet.

Advice! Make sure the DHCP server is enabled in the router settings. It assigns local IP addresses to connected devices, which are used to access your home network and allow the Internet to work properly.

Specifying VPN settings

For tariffs with VPN access, you will need to enter additional settings. On the same tab (“Network -> WAN”), select the connection type “L2TP / Russia L2TP”. Enter the username and password specified in the contract. In the "Server IP address" section, enter "unlim.vpn" (if there are no traffic restrictions in the tariff) or "vpn.vpn". Next, go to the "Network -> MAC Address Cloning" tab. Contact the provider's support and dictate to the specialist the address that is displayed in the first line.

Access to the Virtual Private Network on a separate computer needs to be configured only if a router is not used. For this, the provider has developed a separate utility. It sets the parameters with which you can connect the device to the network. Select your operating system in the "Internet Setup" section of the company's website. Download the "VPN Garant Internet" application, open the file and click "Yes" in the dialog box that opens. After installing the utility, run it and enter your account information.

It is more convenient to use the Internet on a laptop through a wireless access point. Before connecting, you need to learn how to set up a Wi-Fi adapter on a laptop. We will talk about methods for turning on and configuring the device in the most popular versions of Windows. Ways to update drivers will be considered.

How to find out if a Wi-Fi module is installed on a laptop

Almost every mobile gadget is equipped with a Wi-Fi module, but you should definitely check its availability. Be sure to check your laptop's technical manual first. In the characteristics, opposite the “Wireless” column, there should be Wi-Fi or IEEE 802.11 lines. Their presence indicates that the necessary component is installed in the laptop.

An alternative option is to look for the presence of the component in the list of devices. To do this, go to the properties of the computer and click on the "Task Manager" link. In the window that opens, among all the hardware, open the Network Adapters tab, and then find the line with the previously described words or the word Wireless (Wi-Fi).

If it's not there

The best option is to upgrade your laptop. Most likely, you have a very "ancient" model with low performance and a missing wireless module. When funds do not allow to buy new technology, order the USB module. It looks like a flash drive, while serving as an external Wi-Fi module. There are hundreds of models with different characteristics on the market. To work, you must install the driver.

How to turn on the Wi-Fi adapter

To use on laptops and individual computers wireless Internet , you should activate the Wi-Fi module, and then connect to the required network. There are several hardware and software methods for enabling Wi-Fi, which will be discussed in detail below.

switch on the body

For the convenience of users, many manufacturers made the switch a separate button on the gadget's body. It can be located on the front panel (on the Esc side or near the Num numeric keys).

We also recommend that you inspect the side panels on both sides for the presence of a switch. It has an antenna icon with diverging waves. Often there are light indicators on the case that inform about the performance of specific components.

In the presence of such a switch and the correct operation of the component itself, of course, the whole inclusion is reduced to one simple action.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Another way is to activate the module with a keyboard shortcut. On laptops, additional settings are placed on the function buttons F1-F12. Also on the keyboard you can find a key with the letters Fn. With its help, additional functions are turned on (including Wi-Fi). You need to hold down Fn and click the button with the brand icon (on different models they will be F2, F3 or F12). The action will activate the indicator (if any) and the connection icon will appear in the start panel on the right side.

Alternatives

If the previous manipulations do not work, the problem is in the drivers or settings operating system. A rare exception is marriage. As a last resort, after all attempts at resuscitation, contact service center, especially if the laptop is under warranty. Also make sure the Wi-Fi hotspot is okay. The problem may lie in the incorrect operation of the Wi-Fi router (you need to re-configure or update the firmware). Try to connect to it mobile phone or tablet to test.

Installing or updating drivers

The inoperability of Wi-Fi is often associated with the driver. The latter is a specialized software that ensures the correct operation of a physical device in the operating system shell. There are three main ways to install a new driver:

  1. independently through the downloaded installer;
  2. through standard Windows functions;
  3. through specialized software.

The first method is the most reliable option, as it excludes “outside” interference. The owner of the laptop should go to the manufacturer's website, and then find the category of software downloads. Next, in the search, write the full name of your model and OS version. Be sure to find out the bit depth (32 or 64 bits). At your request, a list of all drivers will be published. Download the file for the Wireless network adapter.

The second method involves downloading the correct driver through Microsoft databases. You should right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter in the device manager and select "Update Drivers". Please note that the update tool does not always find the latest version.

The latter method is extremely convenient, since the program takes over all the "dirty work" of searching and installing. An effective tool is Driver Genius. Follow the steps below to update the driver:

"Driver Genius" has a huge database, while regularly replenishing it, so the software can be used to update the software of any laptop hardware.

Necessary actions and settings in the operating system

Activation wireless adapter can be done using the OS. The user should enable it separately in the network settings. Next, we will tell you how to set up Wi-Fi on a laptop for the most common Windows systems.

Windows XP

Full setup on Windows XP consists of the following steps:

WiFi setup within the Windows XP OS will be finished after performing the described steps.

Windows 7

The user should perform similar settings in the "seven". The difference from the previously given instruction is minimal:

Often the provider issues a static IP. In such situations, it is necessary to set the parameters according to the requirements of the service provider. In other cases, automatically obtaining parameters allows you to use Wi-Fi without problems.

Windows 8/10

These OS versions have similar interfaces, so the procedure for them will be almost identical. You need to follow the steps similar to those given earlier for other Windows systems:

Additionally, if there are problems with access, run the diagnostic center. The system may detect errors due to which you are unable to connect to the Wi-Fi hotspot.

Today, many families have long had a couple of computers or laptops, and sometimes both. In addition to all this, there are also smart phones, and maybe a tablet. And, of course, the center of entertainment for each family member is a big one. Up to a certain point, everything usually goes well, while everyone at home uses their devices, but then there is a desire for something more.

This requires a home wireless network. It helps to get rid of unnecessary wires, to be more mobile, of course, makes all media content accumulated by family members available to everyone.
Such home wireless network is organized using a wi-fi router that broadcasts a signal to many devices that support a wireless connection. Or you can join the distribution using network cables, but for this you will need to register IP addresses for each connected device.

For greater comfort of access to content, use NAS server. It can be as separate system unit With several HDD drives, and a ready-made boxed solution. Such a home server allows you to connect any device wirelessly and view HD video, music, play games and much more, and most importantly, store it all on your drives. The home server is also connected to the wi-fi router.

The most common options for connecting to the Internet

  1. With dynamic IP (Automatic IP or DHCP)
  2. With static IP address (Manual configuration field WAN IP address setting, mask, gateway…)

We will consider the 2nd option, with a static IP address. As soon as you select it, the fields for entering the parameters of the static connection - "Setting the WAN IP address" will become active, which must be filled in according to the data received from the Internet provider.

Click "No" and fill in all the fields in sequence.

It is worth noting that in this case the IP address and other network parameters are fixed, they should be entered exactly as indicated by the provider.
If the option with a dynamic IP address is selected, or PPPoE or L2TP, then the setup is simplified and the router will automatically receive all connection parameters from the provider. Only the last two connection types require a name and password provided by the ISP (or, in rare cases, a "Service Name").

Complete the settings by clicking the Apply or Save button.

In some cases, the provider binds the user to the MAC address (physical address) of his computer so that no one else can connect instead of him. In this case, an attempt to access the Internet using a router will become impossible.

To avoid this, the MAC address of the router's external interface should be changed to match the MAC address that your ISP assigned you to (usually the address of your computer's network interface).

This operation is called MAC address cloning, however, this function in the router's web interface does not always have the same name.
To clone the MAC address of your computer that was connected to the Internet by cable before installing the router, enter it in the MAC field of the "Special ISP Requirements" section in the WAN section, Internet connection tab.

Save the settings by clicking the "Apply" button.

How to find out the MAC address of a computer

To find out the MAC address of the computer and enter it when setting up an Internet connection on the router,
do the following:

1. Click on the computer icon in the task area (tray), click "Network and Sharing Center"

and in the window that opens, select "Connect via local network».

2. Click the Details button to see the MAC address.

The MAC address will be located in the Physical Address field.

Configuring Wi-Fi Settings Manually

If you did everything correctly and specified the correct connection parameters, then after rebooting the router you will get access to the Internet from the computer on which you made the settings. Open a browser and type
any website address, such as . The site page has opened, therefore, you can proceed
to setting up a wireless network (wi-fi).

In the menu of the web interface of the router, select the "Wireless" section, the "General" tab.

Please note that some routers support wireless network operation in two bands at once (5 GHz and 2.4 GHz). Set up your wireless network in the more popular 2.4GHz band.

Specify the wireless network operation mode. The best option is a universal setting that ensures compatibility with both new and old versions of the Wi-Fi standard. It is called "Mixed" or "Auto" (automatic mode).

Specify the network SSID (Network name that will be displayed during scanning) in the field of the same name. Select the security option in the "Authentication Method" field, I recommend WPA2-Personal, why, read in the Wi-Fi section. Enter a password (or key) in the WPA Preshared Key field. This key and network name (SSID) will be required to configure access on your wireless devices, so it is recommended that you save them to a file or write them down somewhere in a safe place.

It is recommended to hide the SSID so that your home wireless network was not visible from the outside, but you can still connect to it, since you already know the SSID. To save the settings, click on the "Apply" or "Save" button. By the way, the wireless network in the 5 GHz band is configured in the same way.

Attention! Be careful when updating router firmware. The need for it is due to the incorrect operation of the router and communication problems. Carefully read the update section of the user manual software router and strictly follow the recommendations. Updating the firmware of the router is a last resort, you should not resort to it unless absolutely necessary, since when initial setup there is no need for a wireless network.

P.S. I would be very grateful if you point out those points that need to be analyzed in more detail.

If you have more than one computer at home, but several, then the question usually arises of connecting them to the Internet at the same time. For example, I have 2 laptops, and even Android, which would not refuse Wi-Fi. My provider Garant offers 2 options: either a separate contract for each computer, or a router. From an economic point of view, of course, a router is the most profitable, and given that laptops can work via Wi-Fi, this is also the absence of wires.

However, everything turned out to be not so simple, we have no choice of routers in Gomel, but not everyone can work with the Guarantor. In general, the situation is approximately as follows: those that work correctly either do not exist in Gomel at all, or they cost an order of magnitude more expensive. On the Garant forum, I read in one of the posts that D-Link DIR-320 works fine, but there was no description of its settings. It is not difficult to find this router in Gomel, for example, or in another place, and its price does not bite - about 200,000 bel. rubles.

Fortunately, I managed to set this device to 100%, now I have the Internet, network, DC ++, IPTV and everything else working on 2 computers at the same time, and it’s exactly the same whether by wire or by Wi-Fi.

So now oh settings. First of all, you need to write down your network data, as they will be needed during setup. When the network cable of the Garant is connected to the computer, double-click on the network connection, and in the window that appears on the “Support” tab, click “Details”.

We write down the data that is here in a notepad. I hid mine, but as an example, I will now write completely left ones, which I will continue to use in tuning, you naturally write down your own. So:

Physical Address (MAC): F7-8U-55-33-66-F8
IP address: 10.35.8.162
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 10.35.8.1
DNS server: 10.3.2.290

Now, while we have not yet connected the router and are on the Internet directly from the Garant cable, download the latest firmware for the router and preferably the crack from here, or from. I have the latest in the archive this moment firmware version 1.21 and crack to it. On the standard firmware, you will not be able to configure the router!

We disconnect the network cable of the Guarantor from the computer and connect it to the gray connector on the router, insert the cable that comes with the kit with one end into one of the blue connectors, and the other end into the computer. We connect the adapter, also included in the kit, to the router and plug it into a power outlet.

Now open any browser on the computer and type http://192.168.0.1 in the site address entry line, the router authorization page should open in front of you. Enter the login: admin, leave the password blank and log in to the interface. We immediately go to the MAINTENANCE tab in the top menu and assign a password for authorization in the router interface, which is absent by default.

We save the settings, most likely you will be thrown back to the authorization page, so we authorize again by entering our password and again go to the MAINTENANCE tab, where we select Firmware Update in the left menu.

Here we press “Browse”, select the file new firmware(in my archive it is dir320_v1.21_a3ia.bin), and click “Apply” to start the flashing process. After the end of this process, we again return here and proceed to Russification. Under the section for selecting firmware, there is the same section for selecting language files, so we also click “Browse” there, select the language file dir320_v1.21_8c1b_langpack_ru.bin, click “Apply” and our interface should become in Russian. If this does not happen, reboot the router with the “Reboot” button, which is located on the left.

The preliminary settings are over for this, so let's proceed to the main ones. On the first tab in the top menu “Installation”, click the button “Setting up an Internet connection manually” at the bottom of the page.

Internet connection in use: select “Russia L2TP (Dual Access)”;
Just in case, first select “Static IP address” and enter the data that we saved before, when the computer was still directly connected to the network, then switch to “Dynamic IP address”;
MAC address: You can enter the MAC of your computer, which we also saved, or call the Garant and ask to change your MAC to a new one, i.e. on the MAC of the router, which can be found on the device itself. In this case, this field is not required;
IP Address/Server Name: depending on the tariff, we write unlim.vpn or vpn.vpn;
L2TP account: your login to connect to the Internet (like your home address);
L2TP password: enter the password for connecting to the Internet and repeat it in the next field;
Connection mode: choose "Always".
Now we click “Save settings” and, in theory, your router should already connect to the Internet, as evidenced by the blue glow of the planet image on the left side of the router and the inscription “Internet Online” below. But in any case, let's continue the settings, and at this stage, the non-connect should not worry us, as it can be caused by the simple need to restart the router.

Here, “Enable DNS Relay” and “Enable DHCP server” should be checked, you can change the network address of the router, you can change the range of DHCP IP addresses (for example, I put 150 in the first field, i.e. now the first IP address that will give the router to the computer will be 192.168.0.150).

We save the settings and if we lost connection with the router, then double-click on the network connection icon and on the “Support” tab, click “Fix”.

Now let's go to the top menu to the "ADVANCED SETTINGS" tab, then select "Routing" in the left menu.

Here we set everything up, as shown in this screenshot, in the “Destination” and “Subnet mask” we write the data from the screenshot, in the “Gateway” field in the first 3 fields we write the address of the gateway that you saved when the network cable of the Guarantor is connected to the computer , and in the latter we indicate the first IP address that the router will issue to the computer, i.e. what you entered in “LAN Setup”.

Now we restart the router and for reliability the computer, and at this stage you should already be connected to the Internet and be able to visit local sites, IPTV should also work, though for this in the IP-TV Player settings on the “General” tab in the “Network interface” field ” you need to select the IP address that the router gave you.

PS: Do you know that the color of your eyes can be changed very easily? Say it's impossible? I thought so too, until I saw a girl I knew with bright diamond eyes. To be honest, it's mesmerizing. And all that is needed for this is colored contact lenses, which are affordable for everyone. And their use is not only safe, but also useful.

Good day.

In order to be able to organize a wireless Wi-Fi network at home and give Internet access to everyone mobile devices(laptops, tablets, phones, etc.) - you need a router (even many novice users are already aware of this). True, not everyone decides to independently connect it and configure it ...

In fact, this is within the power of the majority (I do not take into account exceptional cases when an Internet provider creates such "junk" with its own parameters for accessing the Internet ...). In this article I will try to answer all the most FAQ that I heard (and hear) when connecting and configuring a Wi-Fi router. So let's get started...

1) Which router do I need, how to choose it?

Perhaps this is the first question that users who want to organize a wireless Wi-Fi network at home ask themselves. I would start this question with a simple and important point: what services does your Internet provider provide (IP telephony or Internet TV), what Internet speed do you expect (5-10-50 Mbps?), and how protocol you are connected to the Internet (for example, now popular: PPTP, PPPoE, L2PT).

Those. the functions of the router will begin to be drawn by themselves ... In general, this topic is quite extensive, therefore, I recommend that you read one of my articles:

search and selection of a router for home -

2) How to connect the router to the computer?

As a rule, in the configuration directly to the router itself, there is a power supply and a network cable for connecting to a PC (see Fig. 1).

By the way, please note that on the back of the router there are several sockets for connecting a network cable: one WAN port and 4 LAN ( The number of ports depends on the router model. In the most common home routers, the configuration is as in fig. 2).

Rice. 2. Typical view of the router from the back (TP Link).

The Internet cable from the provider (which was most likely connected to the PC's network card earlier) must be connected to the blue port of the router (WAN).

With the cable that comes with the router, you need to connect the computer's network card (where the provider's Internet cable was previously connected) to one of the LAN ports of the router (see Fig. 2 - yellow ports). By the way, in this way you can connect several more computers.

At the big moment! If you do not have a computer, then you can connect the LAN port of the router with a laptop (netbook) with a network cable. The fact is that the initial configuration of the router is better (and in some cases, otherwise impossible) to carry out via a wired connection. After specifying all the basic parameters (set up a wireless Wi-Fi connection), then the network cable can be disconnected from the laptop, and then work via Wi-Fi.

As a rule, there are no issues with connecting cables and power supplies. We will assume that your device is connected, and the LEDs on it started blinking :).

3) How to enter the router settings?

This is probably the key question of the article. In most cases, this is done quite simply, but sometimes ... Consider the whole process in order.

By default, each router model has its own address for entering the settings (as well as a username and password). In most cases it is the same: http://192.168.1.1/ however, there are exceptions. Here are some models:

  • Asus - http://192.168.1.1 (Login: admin, Password: admin (or empty field));
  • ZyXEL Keenetic - http://192.168.1.1 (Login: admin, Password: 1234);
  • D-LINK - http://192.168.0.1 (Login: admin, Password: admin);
  • TRENDnet - http://192.168.10.1 (Login: admin, Password: admin).

At the big moment! It is impossible to say with 100% accuracy what address, password and login your device will have (even despite the brands I mentioned above). But in the documentation for your router, this information is necessarily indicated (most likely, on the first or last page of the user manual).

Rice. 3. Entering a login and password to access the router settings.

For those who failed to enter the router settings, there is a good article with the reasons analyzed (why this could happen). I recommend using the tips, link to the article below.

How to access 192.168.1.1? Why does not enter, the main reasons -

How to enter the settings of the Wi-Fi router (step by step) -

4) How to set up an Internet connection in a Wi-Fi router

Before describing these or those settings, a small footnote should be made here:

  1. First - even routers from the same model range can be with different firmware ( different versions). The settings menu depends on the firmware, i.e. what you will see when you go to the settings address (192.168.1.1). The language of the settings also depends on the firmware. In my example below, I will show the settings of a popular router model - TP-Link TL-WR740N (the settings are in English, but it’s not so difficult to understand them. Of course, it’s even easier to set up in Russian).
  2. The router settings will depend on the organization of the network at your Internet provider. To configure the router, you need connection information (login, password, IP addresses, connection type, etc.), usually everything you need is contained in an Internet connection agreement.
  3. For the above reasons - it is impossible to give universal instructions that are suitable for all occasions ...

Different Internet providers have a different type of connection, for example, Megaline, ID-Net, TTK, MTS, etc. use a PPPoE connection (I would call it the most popular). In addition, it provides higher speed.

When connecting PPPoE to access the Internet, you need to know the password and login. Sometimes (for example, with MTS) PPPoE + Static Local is used: access to the Internet will be provided, after entering the password and login for access, the local network is configured separately - you will need: IP address, mask, gateway.

Necessary settings (for example, PPPoE, see Fig. 4):

  1. You need to open the "Network / WAN" section;
  2. WAN Connection Type - specify the type of connection, in this case PPPoE;
  3. PPPoE Connection: Username - specify the login for accessing the Internet (specified in your agreement with the Internet provider);
  4. PPPoE Connection: Password - password (similarly);
  5. Secondary Connection - here we either do not specify anything (Disabled), or, for example, as in MTS - we specify Static IP (depending on the organization of your network). Usually, this setting item affects access to the local network of your Internet provider. If you do not need it, you can not really worry;
  6. Connect on Demand - establish an Internet connection as needed, for example, if the user accesses the Internet browser and requests a page on the Internet. By the way, please note that there is a column below Max idle Time - this is the time after which the router (if it is idle) will disconnect from the Internet.
  7. Connect Automatically - connect to the Internet automatically. In my opinion, the optimal parameter, it should be chosen ...
  8. Connect Manually - connect to the Internet manually (uncomfortable...). Although some users, for example, if the traffic is limited - it is quite possible that given type will be the most optimal, allowing them to control the traffic limit and not go into the red.

Rice. 4. Setting up a PPPoE connection (MTS, TTK, etc.)

You should also pay attention to the Advanced tab (advanced) - you can set DNS in it (they are sometimes necessary).

Rice. 5. Advanced tab in TP Link router

Another important point - many ISPs bind your network card MAC address and do not allow you to access the Internet if the MAC address has changed ( approx. each network card has its own unique MAC address).

Modern routers can easily emulate the desired MAC address. To do this, open the tab Network/MAC Clone and press the button Clone MAC Address.

Alternatively, you can tell your new MAC address to your ISP and they will unblock it.

Note. The MAC address is something like this line: 94-0C-6D-4B-99-2F (see Fig. 6).

Rice. 6. MAC address

Incidentally, for example, in Billine» type of connection is not PPPoE, a L2TP. The setup itself is performed in a similar way, but with some reservations:

  1. Wan Connection Type - select L2TP connection type;
  2. Username, Password - enter the data provided by your Internet provider;
  3. Server IP-address - tp.internet.beeline.ru;
  4. save the settings (the router should reboot).

Rice. 7. Setting up L2TP for Billine…

Note. Actually, after the entered settings and rebooting the router (if you did everything correctly and entered exactly the data that you need), you should have the Internet in your laptop (computer) that you connected via a network cable! If this is the case, the only thing left is to set up a wireless Wi-Fi network. In the next step, we will do this ...

5) How to set up a wireless Wi-Fi network in a router

Setting up a wireless Wi-Fi network, in most cases, comes down to specifying the network name and password to access it. As an example, I will show the same router (although I will take the Russian firmware to show both the Russian and English versions).

First you need to open the section Wireless (wireless network), see fig. 8. Next, set the following settings:

  1. Network name - the name that you will see when searching for and connecting to a Wi-Fi network (specify any);
  2. Region - you can specify "Russia". By the way, in many routers there is not even such a parameter;
  3. Channel Width, Channel- you can leave Auto and do not change anything;
  4. Save your settings.

Rice. 8. Setting up a Wi-Fi wireless network in the TP Link router.

Next, you need to open the tab " Wireless Security". Many people underestimate this point, but if you do not protect the network with a password, then all your neighbors will be able to use it, thereby lowering your network speed.

  • Version: you can not change and leave automatic;
  • Encryption: same, automatic;
  • The PSK password is the password to access your Wi-Fi network. I recommend that you specify something that is difficult to pick up with the usual enumeration, or by guessing by chance (no 12345678!).

Rice. 9. Encryption type setting (security).

After saving the settings and rebooting the router, your wireless Wi-Fi network should start working. Now you can set up a connection on a laptop, phone, and other devices.

6) How to connect a laptop to a wireless Wi-Fi network

As a rule, if the router is correctly configured, there should be no problems with setting up and accessing the network in Windows. And such a connection is made in a couple of minutes, no more ...

First, click on the Wi-Fi icon in the tray next to the clock. In the window with the list of found Wi-Fi networks, select your own and enter the password to connect (see Fig. 10).

Rice. 10. Selecting a Wi-Fi network for connecting a laptop.
