What for? How good it used to be - there is one new iPhone model on the market and one last year. If you want cheaper, you take a year-old iPhone. If you want maximum performance, you buy a newly announced smartphone.

Many did not like this lack of choice and got what they wanted ... At the moment (early 2018), 8 (eight, Karl!) different iPhone models are presented in the Apple online store. This is not counting the numerous configurations with the amount of memory.

Apple is enough, you've already confused everyone! Even I, the person who closely follows all these iPhones, do not have time to remember which model can be for so many gigabytes - either this iPhone is available at 16GB, or it is no longer produced. 1. Speaker. Starting with the iPhone 7, Apple makes its models waterproof, which negatively affects the performance of the earpiece. As many have noted, the sound when talking on the phone on the iPhone 6S is much cleaner than the next generation of iPhone.
2. Camera. Yes, yes, yes, judging by the reviews, the iPhone 6S camera is almost the standard among the latest iPhone models. Since many do not like the image processing algorithm in the iPhone 7 and 8 (yellow, "soap" in the details).

• Body color choice. Yes, it's all very subjective. But in my opinion, "this is a fiasco" Apple - where is any variety? Cream? Are you seriously? And in general, I want a blue iPhone! :)
• Camera. Judging by the test shots, a terrible yellowness appears in the photo in an artificial room. Yes, it was also in the iPhone 7, but obviously not so strong. Although, in fairness, it should be noted that photo processing algorithms can be corrected with the release of new firmware.
• This is the iPhone 7. New - at least.

• True Tone is one of the few innovations. Now the adjustment of screen colors and backlight intensity has become more intelligent.

In my opinion, there are few advantages. Is all this worth an overpayment of 10,000 or more thousand rubles (compared to the iPhone 7)? Big question.

And with the "large" iPhone, everything is about the same as with the small ones. In addition, the iPhone 6S Plus should not be considered for purchase at all. And how to choose the right one? That's right, look at what is written a little higher about small models - everything repeats. There are no cardinal differences that allow us to unequivocally recommend for purchase only the iPhone 8 Plus (and not the iPhone 7 Plus) - no.

Are you willing to pay for the most powerful processor on the market (in real-world tasks, the difference with the 7 Plus processor is negligible), wireless charging, True Tone? You can buy and 8 Plus. Not? We take 7 Plus and enjoy a good device.

Should I take the iPhone X in 2017-2018?

Of course, this smartphone stands apart among all the iPhone models in 2017-2018 - there are too many innovations. The most-most iPhone for the next year. Maximum possibilities. Super device. Take and rejoice!

But… For example, I would not be in a hurry to buy it in 2017. And, at least, I would wait until the beginning (or even the middle) of 2018. And that's why:

How did you get this device? By what criteria was it chosen? Where and how much was bought?

The purchase was the result of another long and painful suffering on the topic of "the optimal set of gadgets." This year I have to move to study in relatively warm European regions for a couple of years, from which there are several consequences. It is possible to wear Note 5 in the pocket of trousers in the warm season (see story), but this process does not cause enthusiasm, I wanted something smaller. For lecture notes, an iPad Pro with a stylus was bought, after which there was a desire to unify the zoo of ecosystems and return to the iPhone. The budget allowed you to take everything, including the basic 7 Plus, but, as usual, the toad intervened.

"Pros" (at least, and) did not want to take, because:
a) expensive
b) and so there is an iPad;
c) they are healthy (unjustifiably, in my opinion, Note 5 is smaller with a larger diagonal);
d) the only type of crime common in the future place of residence is pickpocketing, so I didn’t really want to buy an expensive device with the risk of losing it.

The usual seven for its current 36-37 thousand looked quite a good option, but to the toad it seemed like too much waste. As a result, at the final stage, the choice was between different modifications, released for third world countries with a 32 GB six for 24 thousand and restored 6 Plus for 28-29. The latter still seems like a pretty good option to me, with great battery life, a good screen, camera, and more. But big.

I looked at it for a long time and at first I thought about modifications to 64 and 128 GB, but then at some point Apple dropped prices throughout the market to 19990 (and now in some places on the PCT you can find thousands more for one and a half cheaper) and pay extra for larger volumes memory under a hundred dollars seemed unreasonable to me. He, I don’t know, doesn’t go out because of this and doesn’t fall apart? Size and design. And again size 10. The phone fits perfectly in any pocket, including the breast pocket of a shirt. Doesn't interfere. Not felt. Very light. Doesn't slip out of hand. Nice small piece of metal. You take it in your hands - you wave a thing, that's all.

Almost everywhere the interface is pretty well adapted to the small screen size. The font is small only in Safari in vertical mode.

One of the key moments in my suffering with the choice was the moment when I realized that I can blindly type text on a standard keyboard, and the output is almost perfect, but on Samsung, where the buttons are larger due to their size and are all stuffed machine learning and artificial intelligence Google keyboard, forever jambs. I don’t know how it is, but the Apple keyboard in most cases is very good at correcting typos and selecting the right replacement options.

You can forget about the suffering of the type "I used the maps - turn off the GPS" and generally forget about closing applications, turning on energy saving, thoughtful digging "what application to allow what", etc., in order to survive until the evening (conditionally from 8 am to 11 pm). This is with quite active use in the early days, numerous walks with maps, etc.

Oddly enough, the front camera turned out to be quite tolerable. Yes, the resolution is small, but there are less hellish geometry distortions, and the colors are not bad.

The fingerprint sensor works much better than on previous Android devices.

There is more than enough power and most likely will last for another couple of years, given that playing heavy games on such a screen is not a task for the faint of heart, and you should not expect any virtual reality with such a resolution. But at the same time, from the point of view of all sorts of synthetic benchmarks, in terms of the ruble of money, it probably destroys plus / minus almost everything that is on the market.

What's not to like? Weaknesses, shortcomings.

The camera performance in the dark is worse compared to both the Nexus 5X and the Note 5 . They have a physically larger matrix, and the second one also has an optical stabilizer, in poor lighting conditions this gives a fundamental difference in quality. But I was quite ready for this. Another question is that the color reproduction quality of , for my taste, is better than both of the devices listed above. And I don’t believe in the harsh post-processing of photos from the phone, pulling out RAW "s in Lightroom", etc. - this kills the whole idea of ​​​​mobile photography.

What do you miss in it?

From realistic Wishlist - quick launch of the camera by double pressing a button, like on Nexus 5X and Samsung. In summer, this is not very important, although it would still be more convenient, but in winter it allows you to keep your gloves on. Otherwise, everything fits perfectly into the concept of reasonable sufficiency. Of the slightly less realistic ones, it would be great to get moisture protection, but, probably, this is not so easy to do on the current chassis.

What features do you use frequently? What features do you use occasionally? What features do you not use at all?

A little dialer, mail, quite a lot of browser and instant messengers, all sorts of alarm clocks, calendars, calculators. Maps as needed, all sorts of transport applications. Camera, Yandex.Music. A little bit of reading, that's what the iPad is for. While Siri is not enough, it's hard for me to get used to talking to the phone. Maybe in time I'll buy a watch, I'll get used to it.

No. But there is one important plus, the screen and glass are two different parts, respectively, the maintainability is higher, the cost is lower. He did not slow down then, so there is no fundamental difference in this part, the camera has definitely become better and the battery life is much more pleasant. With the current price difference of three thousand (especially considering the difference of 16 GB versus 32 for SE, the fingerprint sensor is worse, and strong. On the iPhone, I have not yet had a single problem with operation, there was a constant war with Samsung "app finger right". But, we must pay tribute to Note 5 and Samsung - with the seventh Android, battery life has become better, and there are a little less problems with the print.

What else can you say?

In my opinion, the iPad 2017 are two great devices from Apple in terms of price and features. As I already said, I don’t understand whining about design reuse. What difference does it make how old this design is if you like it and are satisfied with it? Especially if it allows you to make the price much lower.
