How to restore rar archive. What should I do if the WinRAR archive is damaged? Extracting files from a damaged archive in WinRAR

I had such moments when I could not unpack the archive, and all because it was damaged. This happened more than once, and after analyzing it, I realized that other Windows users have the same problem. Fortunately, this problem can be quickly dealt with, but not completely.

In this article, I will describe a method that will allow you to fully or partially restore damaged archive files using the archiver itself. We will work with ZIP and RAR archives, but restoring archives of other formats is done according to the same principle. Most likely you already have an archiver, otherwise, how would you know about the generated archive. For example, it can be one of the most popular archivers - .

You can download WinRAR from the official website.

Unpack the damaged archive in two stages, in the first we will start restoring the archive, and in the second we will start extracting. Unfortunately, I do not guarantee 100% recovery and unpacking.

Restoring a damaged archive

We will restore the archive with WinRAR as much as we can. You can try to use another archiver.

First you need to launch the archiver, you can simply launch the program icon. Then you find the corrupted archive, select it and press the " To correct"(button of first-aid kit type).

If this button is not visible, you can press the Alt + R keys.

After pressing the required button, a window will appear that shows the recovery options. In point "Archive Type" choose RAR or ZIP, depending on which archive is damaged, then choose which folder it will be saved to.

The recovery process will begin. If the file is large, then you will have to wait longer.

An attempt to restore may fail. In this case, all files from the archive cannot be extracted, but we will try at least some of them.

Unpacking the damaged archive

Right click on the archive and select "Extract files…". A window with parameters should appear, where we specify the path. Be sure to check the box next to "Do not delete files extracted with errors" and now click OK.

It is interesting:

The extraction process will begin. As I said, there is no complete certainty that all files will be restored and extracted from the damaged archive, but we tried, I hope you succeed. The article is short but understandable, I will try to find more information about the efficient extraction of files from the archive.

Hello! My name is Victoria. Thank you SO much in advance for your help!
Question number 1.
I have 2 laptops: Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP).
The Dell laptop has "Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN.Mini-PCI Wireless Network Adapter".
At the same time, when I change the twelve-digit number of the “locally managed MAC address” of the “Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN.Mini-PCI” wireless network adapter in a Dell laptop, then when I access the Internet through a PUBLIC Wi-Fi wireless access point in a cafe (then is NOT AT HOME!!!) the "OUTSIDE IP-address" of my laptop is changing!!! THIS IS WHAT I NEED!!! For example, when I check my "EXTERNAL IP-address" on the site www.2ip.ru, I see that it is CHANGING!!! That is, my goal is to be able to change the “EXTERNAL IP address” of my laptop at any time when accessing the Internet through a PUBLIC Wi-Fi wireless access point in a cafe (that is, NOT AT HOME !!!), when I do everything -just ELEMENTARY - just change the twelve-digit number of the “locally managed MAC address” of the “Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN.Mini-PCI Wireless Network Adapter” in one minute, and I AUTOMATICALLY CHANGES the “EXTERNAL IP address” of my laptop !!!
In my OTHER laptop - Hewlett-Packard (HP) - there is a "Broadcom 4313 802.1 / b / g / n network adapter".
At the same time, when I change the number of the “managed MAC address” of the “Broadcom 4313 802.1 / b / g / n network adapter” in a Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop, then when I access the Internet through a PUBLIC wireless access point Wi-Fi in cafe (i.e. NOT AT HOME!!!) THE "EXTERNAL IP-address" of my laptop does NOT change!!! AND I DON'T NEED IT AT ALL!!! That is, my goal is to be able to change the “EXTERNAL IP address” of my laptop at any time when accessing the Internet through a PUBLIC Wi-Fi wireless access point in a cafe (that is, NOT AT HOME !!!), while changing only "Managed MAC address" number!!!
That is, when I do the SAME thing in a Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop as in a Dell laptop (see above), then when I access the Internet via a PUBLIC wireless Wi-Fi network in a cafe (that is, NOT AT HOME! !!) The "OUTSIDE IP address" of my laptop does NOT change!!! And my goal is to be able to change the "OUTSIDE IP-address" of my laptop at any time when accessing the Internet via a PUBLIC wireless Wi-Fi network in a cafe (that is, NOT AT HOME!!!)!!!
Question number 1: why in my Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop, when accessing the Internet via Wi-Fi, the “EXTERNAL IP address” of my laptop does NOT change, although, as indicated above, I CHANGE the number of the “Managed MAC address” »???
Question #2: What should I do so that when I access the Internet via a PUBLIC wireless Wi-Fi network on my Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop, I CHANGE my laptop's "OUTSIDE IP address" when I CHANGE the "Managed MAC address" number? ?? That is, how do I get my Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop to do the SAME thing that my other Dell laptop does (see question #1 above)?
Question number 3: can I put the “Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN.Mini-PCI Wireless Network Adapter” from my Dell laptop into my Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop, and will the IP change in my Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop the address of my laptop, as in a Dell laptop (see above, question # 1) ??? If it can be done, then please tell me how it can be done. Also, will the "brains" (software) of the "Dell Wireless 1370 WLAN.Mini-PCI Wireless Network Adapter" from my Dell laptop fit the "brains" (software) of my Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop???
Help me please!
My mail: [email protected]
Once again, many thanks in advance for your help. Thank you for your prompt reply. Please excuse me for disturbing you.
Sincerely, Your Victoria!

The rar archive file, like any other file, can be damaged. Data corruption can occur when downloading an archive via the Internet or when overwriting an archive file from a failed flash drive, or maybe a disk. Such damage does not allow extracting information from the archive, and WinRAR issues a corresponding message. Next, we will look at how to repair a corrupted rar archive with WinRAR and unpack it.

The WinRAR program has the ability to restore damaged archives, for which there is a corresponding menu item "To correct". The success of recovering a damaged archive is strongly affected by the presence or absence of information for recovery.

When trying to open a damaged archive, the archiver reports an error with a description of the reason for its occurrence.

If there are many files in such an archive, then the archiver can unpack some of them before an error occurs in the file. If recovery information is added to such a file, then the probability of successfully fixing the error is quite high. You can check its presence or absence by finding the archive through the WInRAR program explorer, and selecting the menu item "Information".

In any case, you need to try to restore the damaged archive. To do this, open the WinRAR program and find our damaged archive in it. Then select it and click on the menu item "To correct".

After that, a window appears in which you need to specify the type of archive to be restored, and specify the folder in which you will need to write the restored archive.

Very often there are situations when the necessary information in the archive is not available, since it is not unpacked. At the same time, an unpleasant message pops up: the archive is corrupted". We offer several ways to solve this problem.

You must have Winrar installed on your computer.

After all the actions taken, a window will appear in which Winrar will ask what to treat zip or rar. Choose the kind of format in which you have a problematic file. Farther specify the location, where to put, press the button OK.

We are waiting for the completion of the process, we try to open the archive as usual. If the file is very large in size, then you will have to wait a bit. Does not work? Most likely you will have to use other options.

You can also try extract documents in batches from a damaged archive. You will need:

It is possible, of course, that there will be several files or not at all, but you will get at least those that can be extracted.

In order to increase the probability of unpacking, you must, before adding files to the archive, specify recovery information. Especially for very important documents. The procedure will take you a few minutes, but in the future there will be no problems with opening and restoring.

It's not hard to do it choose the desired object, right-click on it, select " Add to archive". A window will open, in which we put a tick in front of the item " Add recovery information».

After that, go to the tab in the same window Additionally. Here you will need to set the recovery percentage, I advise you to set more than 3% for a positive result. Next, click OK, wait while the utility archives the files

Using 7Zip

If the above manipulations did not help you, do not hesitate to download a powerful 7Zip archiver. It is free, effective, as it supports a huge number of different formats.

You only need to select the correct version that suits your computer, 32 bit system version or 64 bit version. Downloading the program, launch. In the window that appears, you need to specify the path to the file that is damaged, click the button Next as shown in the figure below.

There is another option to recover damaged files using the program RAR Recovery Toolbox.

But I want to warn you right away that the program is paid, if you don’t want to pay, you can look for the Portable version.

In use, the program is very simple, understandable, run it, press the button Next following all requirements.

Program Hamster Free Zip Archiver also designed to create, open archives. It, unlike Winrar, has a beautiful interface, a clear menu. But it will only create zip and 7z formats. Only unpacks rar archives. You can try to open a corrupted archive with it. It is noted that for most people these attempts were crowned with success.

Sometimes there are cases when, when transferring archived files using e-mail or file sharing services, they cannot be opened, a message appears that the archive is damaged. In this case, it is necessary to restore it using the archiver or special programs.

You will need

  • - a computer with Internet access;
  • - winrar.

Instruction

  • Run the Winrar program to repair the damaged archive. Navigate to the folder that contains it using the built-in explorer. Select the desired archive, right-click on its name, or select the "Restore archive" command from the "Operations" menu. Also, rar archive recovery can be launched with the Alt + R key combination.
  • A window will appear in which specify the location folder for the restored archive, and also select its format (rar or zip). Set the necessary parameters for restoring the rar archive, click the "OK" button. The recovery time will depend primarily on the size of the archive file being restored.
  • Download a special utility for restoring archive files if it was not possible to do this using Winrar. To do this, copy the link http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/download/RecoveryToolboxForRARInstall.exe into the address bar of your browser. The program must be registered in order to be able to save recovered files. The demo mode will only allow you to analyze the files in the damaged archive.
  • Install and run Recovery Toolbox for RAR, the program window appears, in which you need to select a file to restore, to do this, click on the button with the image of an open folder, select the damaged archive in the window, click OK. The file will be added to the program, click Next. Next, the analysis and scanning of files in the archive will be launched. In the next window, mark the files from the list to be scanned, click Next.
  • Pay attention to the color of the exclamation file, which is located next to the file name. If it is red, then the file cannot be restored, and if it is blue, then the file will be restored without errors. In the next window, select the folder where you want to place the recovered files and click OK.
  • Tip added May 31, 2011 Tip 2: How to open a damaged archive Archiving is a convenient way to store data in a compressed state. However, sometimes when you try to unpack an archive with the information you need, you may encounter the fact that the archive is corrupted. You can find a way out of this situation, and you can try to recover important data by restoring the archive using the WinRAR program and its built-in tools.

    Instruction

  • Open the non-working archive in WinRAR. In the program menu, select the "Commands" section, and in the list that opens, find the "Restore archive" option. You can also invoke the restore command by pressing Alt+R. A restore window will open - confirm it by clicking OK, and then wait for the archive restore operation to complete.
  • The archive will be saved as a copy in the same folder where the corrupted archive was stored. You will recognize it by the inscription fixed, which appeared in the title.
  • In most cases, this method helps to recover all lost data. Therefore, if you have downloaded archived information that you have been looking for for a long time, and the archive refuses to work, do not delete the downloaded file and do not immediately start looking for an alternative to an unsuccessful download.
  • Try to recover data using WinRAR, after checking several parameters that affect archive recovery.
  • If the archive is password protected and cannot be opened, make sure you have entered the correct password. Check the layout, make sure you don't have Caps Lock pressed.
  • If a password is not required when starting the archive, update WinRAR to the latest version, and also update the version of the program that you use to download files over the Internet. Perhaps the archive itself, posted on the server, is not damaged, and it received damage due to incorrect download.
  • Do not download files using a browser - this is an unreliable method in which you risk losing some of the information.
  • When you download the archive, compare its size with the one indicated on the site. If the size of the downloaded archive is smaller, it means that during the download process you lost some data due to a connection error, RAM error, hard disk problem, download program error, etc. Try downloading the file again with a different method.
  • After restoring the archive, try unpacking it again and check if the information has been completely restored.
