Nokia 6 01 description. Screen

The C6-01 model is the youngest smartphone in the new line of Nokia devices based on the Symbian ^ 3 operating system. Despite this fact, the device does not suffer from a lack of functionality, on the contrary, it is built on the same platform as the flagship models.

Camera without autofocus, software flaws, vibration alert

Verdict

Design, build quality

The design of the C6-01 differs from other Nokia smartphones on Symbian ^ 3, outwardly the device looks more like the successor to the popular 5800 model, but in a more austere style. The body of the device is made of metal and is well assembled, the only removable element is back cover, fits snugly and does not play. But it is removed quite easily, so it is difficult to predict how the fixing mechanism will show itself during long-term operation. In the hand Nokia C6-01 lies well, which is facilitated by the streamlined shape of the case, but the thickness of this model is too large by modern standards, almost 14 mm.

Display

The entire front panel of the device is occupied by a capacitive 3.2-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 640x360 pixels. In doing so, it is covered protective glass and supports ClearBlack technology, which improves its behavior in the sun. If you really want to scratch the display cover, it is quite possible not to try. In addition, the surface of the screen gets dirty quickly, the glass collects fingerprints very well, but it will not be difficult to remove them. ClearBlack technology really improves the display's behavior in the sun, it looks better than conventional AMOLED panels, but it still fades in bright light.

Ergonomics

The main control in the C6-01 is the touch screen, which, despite its relatively small size, is quite convenient in everyday use. Pressing the display works well, there is support for Multi-Touch. In addition to the screen, all the rest of the smartphone is controlled by mechanical buttons. Unlike other Symbian ^ 3-based models, the C6-01, in addition to the menu key, has mechanical call accept and reject buttons, which undoubtedly improve the experience with the device. On the left side of the device are the volume keys, a screen lock / unlock slider and a camera shutter button. At the bottom there is a micro-USB port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a standard Nokia charger jack.

Interface

Working Nokia C6-01 running the Symbian ^ 3 operating system. Many small changes have been made to this version of the platform, but in general, its capabilities are not much different from Symbian S60 5th edition. Of the innovations, a new one can be noted mail client, application to work in in social networks, an updated media player, OVI maps, and the OVI Store. The system works on the C6-01 stably, but sometimes flaws in the software still appear, it seems that this is everyone's problem latest versions Symbian ^ 3 and Nokia plans to release a radical system update dubbed Anna in the next few months.

Performance

By performance, Nokia C6-01 It completely repeats the older models, the device uses a processor with a frequency of 680 MHz, 256 MB of RAM and 1 GB of NAND memory for storing user data. At the same time, 340 MB of internal memory is allocated for installing applications, which can be expanded up to 32 GB due to the microSD slot. The speed of the device is at an average level, delays are noticeable when launching applications, viewing photo galleries and working in the browser. Since the C6-01 is a hardware-based replica of Nokia's flagship smartphones, performance issues should be addressed with the release of new version Symbian ^ 3. The hardware in the device cannot be called powerful by today's standards, but it should be enough for the normal operation of the OS, so the problems here are more likely in the code optimization.

Camera

Like most latest smartphones The Nokia C6-01 is equipped with an 8-megapixel fixed focus camera and dual LED flash. In good light, the camera takes high-quality pictures, like for a phone, but as the lighting deteriorates, the detail of the picture will decrease. Using a fixed focus in the camera prevents it from capturing text and objects at close range. But the device can record video in 720p resolution.

Exploitation

V Nokia C6-01 a 1050 mAh battery is installed, which is enough for two days of active use of the smartphone. The device has one built-in external speaker, the volume of which will be enough not to miss a call even in a very noisy place. But the vibration alert in the phone is weak, you can easily miss it. The volume of the earpiece in the C6-01 is at a good level, the interlocutor can be heard in almost any conditions, although there are no additional noise cancellation systems in the device. During the operation of the smartphone, there were no problems with working in the operator's network, as well as when connecting to Wi-Fi.

conclusions

This Nokia model is positioned as a youth smartphone, it is well assembled and equipped, but loses to competitors in performance and still needs software optimization. Also, using a camera with a fixed focus in a smartphone is not the most optimal solution.

    1. The battery holds a relatively long time (2 days). True, I very rarely go online, but I often listen to music and take pictures. 2. Good camera (except that there is no autofocus). I often take pictures myself, I am satisfied with the quality of the pictures. You can quickly capture something interesting, and then show it to your friends or put it somewhere. 3. High-quality assembly - nothing staggers, does not break off. The phone does not bend or creak when you squeeze it. 4. Inexpensive. 5. Sits well and comfortably in the hand. 6. Heavy. I like it. 7. Excellent picture quality. Amoled screen saves energy. 8. Toys like Angry Birds, and the one in which you have to cut vegetables with your finger, work with a bang. No brakes and lags. 9. Good built-in speaker. 10. High-quality sound during a conversation, without interference.

This is the pinnacle of Nokia's creation! I've had Nokia phones since 1999, when they were still making them suitcases. The whole line of their phones passed through my hands and I changed Nokia only once with Motorolla, when they had the very first clamshell in the world. The C6-01 phone is just a workhorse, not bulky like modern shovel phones, the charge lasts 2-3 days when browsing the Internet, working with mail, ICQ, Twitter, etc. I watched a bunch of films on it, not thinking that there would not be enough exercise until the evening. Unkillable - fell several times on the concrete floor and on the tiles and worked! Gorilla Glass, 8 Mpx camera, aluminum back cover - reliable protection! The flashlight is very bright. If you have hands, you can make a modification (theme, fonts, freeing memory, installing third-party programs), then you won't want it at all, no matter what

    2 years ago 0

    1. Extremely shockproof! It fell both on the asphalt and on the tiles without any damage. Perhaps this is due to the metal case. Rain and snow do not care! 2. The screen is really scratch resistant. Carrying in your pocket with keys, you can safely scratch the screen. After> 3.5 years of use, only the paint on the corners of the phone has worn off a little. 3. The Symbian platform is more than intuitive and not buggy. 4. Camera 8 MP. Pictures of the city at night, a clear meadow, sunset - they come out great. 5. Built-in powerful flashlight (camera flash, respectively, is also powerful). 6. Screen sensitivity. Feels even the touch of a slate pencil (convenient when working). 7. The size is slightly smaller than the palm. As a result, it fits perfectly in the hand, without fear of slipping out and easily fits into any pocket. eight.

the phone is wonderful in all respects, the graphics of games are very clear, bright and clean pictures, even at 6 megapixels, when printed, are not inferior to an inexpensive digital camera; fell on nokia n8 and nokia c6-01 bought c6-01 n8 seemed too big and c7 liked it but the sellers convinced that there was no point in overpaying.

Nightmare battery. Does not hold a charge at all! It discharges every day just like that, when it is not touched. The proximity sensor is nothing at all! Despite the fact that I hold the phone close to my ear and cheek, everything is constantly being pressed somewhere by itself. I am not satisfied that when you press the home key when the phone is locked, OFF BLK appears, which reacts to the slightest touch. Personally, this is very inconvenient for me, you press the time to look, and it will unlock.

there is no autofocus, the text is not on the photo ((((the screen would be 3.5 inches) like everything) and the battery could be more than 1050 milliamperes, although it is enough for a day, it could still be more))

    Not eternal (see below)
    - Symbian (in fact, it is very convenient, but the fact that it was buried is a minus ... and terrible troubles with certificates, you just can't install every application)

    there are cases of self-reboot
headphones need to be matched, not all fit
Internet requires a lot of energy

    2 years ago 0

    1. Camera without autofocus - there is no point in photographing text. Well, only if you try very hard and from a distance of no closer than 30-40 centimeters.
    2. Small volume of built-in memory - only 500MB, of which about 300MB is available. We'll have to buy a memory card.

    2 years ago 0

Slippery. This is the main reason for his falls and, as a result, an unnecessary unintentional test for impact resistance. There is no autofocus, and for the 8 Mpix camera this is a minus. To the great regret of Microsoft - the manufacturer of glitchy Windows, killed a Finnish company and a division of Symbian programmers in 3 thousand people. Therefore, this platform is no longer supported. The release of these phones in Europe is no longer produced, so all models come from crooked Chinese hands.

I would not say that these points refer to the wording "did not live up to expectations", but nevertheless:
    1. The same Symbian Platform. At the moment, it is no longer updated and applications, as a result, are not written. It is difficult to attribute to the disadvantages, since there are a lot of applications and for every taste.
    2. It is not easy to buy at the moment.
    3. Photographing text from A4 is somewhat difficult - it focuses poorly.
    4. Mini-minus: you cannot create a note marked "Birthday" in the calendar.

Positioning

In the Symbian ^ 3 line of smartphones Nokia C6-01 for the first half of 2011, the most inexpensive solution is the younger brother of Nokia C7, in which the built-in memory was removed, the screen was reduced from 3.5 to 3.2 inches, but nothing else changed. Nokia is trying to create a kind of Nokia 6303 for the mass market, a smartphone for everyone, which will be attractive for cost, quality of work and software. Unfortunately, Nokia forgot about the existence of Android and the fact that this OS came to the middle price segment... In the absence of Android, this model from Nokia could bribe with its metal body and good screen. But only in the absence of Android.

Of course, I proceed from the premise that a smartphone is bought deliberately, and not accidentally. With a deliberate choice of buyers' liking on the Android side, but not Symbian, this operating system is losing fans due to the fact that it is somewhat outdated in terms of the interface, does not have a normal number of applications and games, and the OVI Store looks like a scarecrow, and not working normally score. For those who have been using Nokia smartphones for many years, this is a good choice, since Symbian ^ 3 is a work on the bugs of previous versions. But for those who are not stuck on one brand, there is plenty to choose from. If you want to be old-fashioned, choose Symbian ^ 3 products, no one will judge you, they just consider you a little conservative. It is not fashionable for young people, it is not very functional (smartphones are primarily additional programs- look for a normal Evernote for Symbian, find KIK, and so on).

Nokia launched the Nokia C6-01 as an answer to those who are a Symbian fan and looking for good value for money. There are no plans to conquer the market, there is no additional share with this device and cannot be. Although the sales of this model will be good, as for the current Symbian models it acts as a kind of gravedigger. In particular, it removes the X6 16 GB and X6 32 GB from the market, making their sales even less, and begins to compete with the X6 8GB, which is much cheaper, but less interesting. The story is exactly the same with the Nokia 5800, which lingered a bit on the market.

Unfortunately, Nokia is trying to charge the same amount for an outdated operating system as modern solutions cost. This margin allows us to say that Nokia C6-01 is not an attempt to popularize Symbian ^ 3, but rather an attempt to squeeze all the juices out of this OS and get the maximum profit. With a properly functioning marketing department, the cost of this product should be about 200 euros (and not the declared 260 euros). The brand markup in Nokia's position is devastating, but the company is doing it again. It's a pity.

I will repeat a short conclusion - this phone is interesting for those who are accustomed to Symbian, are conservative, are not interested in new products and choose a phone for several years without feeling the need to install additional programs, games, in a word, they are satisfied with a small number of applications that are about as outdated as and Symbian.

Design, dimensions, controls

Nokia designers did their best and tried to give this model the look and feel of the 8000 series, as they did for the Nokia 6700 Classic. The battery cover is made of stainless steel, and this is not a thin strip of metal, but an impressive piece. The bezel around the screen is chrome-plated, which also hints at metal. An inexpensive phone gives out only the upper part of the case on the back side, inexpensive plastic looks too unpresentable here. But I will note again that this is a matter of taste, and on the whole the device evokes only positive feelings outwardly. Weight - 131 grams, size - 103.8x52.5x13.9 mm. He lies perfectly in his hands, pulls his hand off with his weight. It must be remembered that people often associate weight with reliability, here this feeling is in abundance.

A total of two colors are available - black and dark silver (Black / Silver Gray). For my taste, both will find their fans. The model does not have a clearly expressed gender characteristic, it is suitable for both men and women.

Comparison with Nokia N8:

Comparison with Nokia C7:

On the front panel there is a front camera for video calls, as well as a light indicator (to the left of the speaker, as well as a proximity sensor). Call / end call buttons, as well as the menu button are made mechanical, this is a plus. In the style of the phone, a lock slider is made on the right side, it is metal or, at least, it looks like metal. Convenient. There is also a camera button and a volume rocker, this button is very small and tight, it is inconvenient to use it.

At the bottom there is a microUSB connector, a 3.5mm jack for a headset, and a 2mm connector for a charger, right there is a charging indicator (glows white when charging).

The speaker for the hands-free and ringtone is located on the back of the device. There is also a two-section LED flash and an 8-megapixel camera without autofocus.

There are no complaints about the build quality, the device is quite tightly assembled, it is good in this parameter.

Display

The screen has a resolution of 640x360 pixels, 3.2 inches, it is covered with glass (this is the name of a special plastic, similar to X6, C7) and displays up to 16 million colors. The screen type is AMOLED, similar to the N8, it can be assumed that the supplier is also Samsung. Unlike the Nokia C7 and N8, a special polarizing layer has been added over the screen to improve the display's behavior in direct sunlight. This type of screen is called ClearBlack Display (CBD).

Indoors, it is impossible to notice any difference between Nokia N8 and Nokia C6-01 in terms of picture quality on the screen, the devices are the same. In the sun, they also do not differ much, at least in the dim autumn sun. However, see sample photos.

Comparison with Nokia C7 (Nokia C6 below):

Comparison with Samsung Wave (Nokia C6 below):

The screen accommodates up to 16 lines of text (not in all modes), three font sizes are supported, they are selected when setting up the phone.

A built-in ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the screen backlight based on ambient conditions. As a rule, the level is underestimated, so it is better to set the value in the menu that is comfortable for you (I have it 60-65 percent of the maximum). You cannot manually adjust the backlight level. Compared to Nokia N8, the backlight adjustment works worse, often the grease on the glass makes its own corrections. I don’t know what it’s connected with, but the backlight level is often underestimated.

The bottom line about the screen is the following: no worse and no better than the Nokia C7 / N8 in terms of picture quality, perhaps it will be a little better in the bright sun. The smaller diagonal makes it less convenient ( screen keyboard less), but the difference is not important. A good, modern screen, there are not enough stars from the sky, but it also has no obvious disadvantages.

Memory, memory cards

The memory in the phone is 340 MB, it is reserved for regular applications or your data. There is no built-in additional memory (for example, the Nokia C7-00 has 8 GB), but there are maps microSD memory up to 32 GB. The memory card slot is located under the back cover.

Volume random access memory in the phone it is 256 MB (in the same Nokia N97 Mini it is 128 MB). For Nokia, this is a giant leap forward, which should have meant increased stability and speed. With speed, this is true, but with stability, everything is not so cloudless. I'll make a reservation that it is better than on other devices from the company, but not as good as it should be.

Battery

The battery used is BL-5CT, its capacity is 1050 mAh. With it the device can work up to 380 hours in standby mode, from 5.5 to 12 hours in talk mode (UMTS / GSM).

The device uses a new architecture, which together with Symbian ^ 3 provides an increased operating time in each mode. Let's look at the operating time of the device in different modes (theory and practice):

  • Video playback up to 7 hours (I got 6.6 hours);
  • Music playback up to 50 hours (standard headphones, music in repeat mode - 49 hours);
  • Video recording - 3 hours 40 minutes (3 hours 10 minutes, maximum specifications)

Differences from Nokia N8 are noticeable, the battery life has increased with the same battery capacity, and noticeably.

The disadvantages include the fact that on average the phone still works no more than 2 days. Compared to many competitors who live no more than one day, this is a good indicator. The energy eater is the desktop with widgets (they are gluttonous, like any data transfer, with the exception of Wi-Fi). When browsing web pages, battery power is also actively wasted. Based on the operating time, it becomes clear why the frequency of the ARM11 processor is only 680 MHz, this is a compromise to achieve the longest operating time.

The total charging time for the phone is about 2 hours.

USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi

USB... In the USB settings, you can select one of 3 operating modes:

  • Data Storage (Mass Storage USB)- both the phone's memory and the memory card are visible, no drivers are required, the OS itself recognizes the phone.
  • OVI Suite- work with OVI Suite, access to all functions of the device, backup all information and so on.
  • Printing & Media- photo printing, MTP mode.

The data transfer rate is about 5.5 Mbps. When the USB cable is connected, the phone is charged.

Bluetooth... This is the third Nokia model with Bluetooth 3.0, also called High Speed. When transferring files to other devices that support this technology, Wi-Fi 802.11 n is used, and the theoretical transfer speed is about 24 Mbps. Checking the transfer of a 1 GB file from Samsung Wave S8500 to Nokia N6 and vice versa showed a maximum speed of about 10 Mbps within three meters between devices. When transferring large files, the connection is often interrupted, which is not observed when transferring files from Nokia N6 to another device of the same type or from Samsung to Samsung. Apparently, there is some kind of incompatibility of settings. At the same time, the transfer of large files to regular S60 smartphones is also interrupted at times (BT 3.0 is not used here).

The model supports various profiles, in particular, Headset, Handsfree, Serial Port, Dial Up Networking, File Transfer, Object Push, Basic Printing, SIM Access, A2DP. Working with headsets does not raise any questions, everything is commonplace.

Wi-Fi... The standard 802.11 b / g / n is supported, this is not the first device on the market with such a set of protocols. Everything works like a clock, does not raise any questions. There is a wizard for searching for Wi-Fi networks, and there is also a corresponding widget (I installed it myself, it's convenient).

Camera

A regular 8MP camera without autofocus, just like in the Nokia C7. Surprisingly, Nokia chased after megapixels, abandoning autofocus. In my opinion, it was better to put a 5MP camera with autofocus than the one worth it. Image quality is acceptable on a clear day at long distances. The camera simply does not know how to shoot close up, photographs of text are something with something, and with a flash the camera also gives mediocre results. For Symbian, the quality of cameras has always been in the first place, but the situation is exactly the opposite. In my opinion, this is a very big drawback, since the camera does not stand up to criticism, its quality is below average, if not worse. However, look at the photos for yourself.

Examples of pictures from the camera:

Video... The camera records video in 720p resolution (25 frames per second, H.264 codec). The video quality is normal.

Software

Let me remind you that all the features of Symbian ^ 3 are described as much as possible in the review. I don't think it possible and necessary to repeat myself separately, the review describes all the functionality of this OS.

Impressions

There is only one speaker in the phone, but it is loud and clear, the call is heard from clothes, bags, in a word, the device is loud. I like that the vibrating alert shakes with a small tremor, but someone will consider it weak, probably even the majority will be like that. There are no complaints about the connection quality, everything works perfectly.

The model is somewhat boring, it does not offer interface updates, everything is expected. If you get used to Symbian, then this device will not disappoint you. If you want a modern operating system, then Android is worth looking at. Unfortunately, Symbian is a bit outdated morally, it will suit conservative consumers.

This device has all the capabilities of Nokia C7 and Nokia N8, it has USB on the Go, DivX support out of the box, the display loses to older models only in the diagonal. If you don’t want to overpay quite a lot of money for older models, you buy this device for 260-270 euros (in Russia the price starts from 14,000 rubles). It is easy to find competitors for this model on the market, there are many touchscreen models for a comparable price, many of them are based on Android and have certain advantages or, on the contrary, are inferior to this device. In any case, already in February-March we will be faced with a new generation of Android devices in this price group. Of the interesting alternatives today I can recommend HTC Gratis, Motorola Defy (protected Android phone). But that's what I like. Unfortunately, Nokia C6-01 turned out to be very boring in spirit, which is not good news. Perhaps someone will like such a boring device. Do not know.
