B200 error in Canon printer - what to do? ciss forum: canon b200 - unusual solutions to a problem - ciss forum B200 printer service error.

It can be very frustrating when you need to type something important, and instead you see an error code pop up. One of the scariest Canon printer error is B200, which may indicate a potentially catastrophic device error.

However, don't jump to extremes right away, printers are expensive and there are several ways to try and fix the problem before you go shopping for a new printer.

What is the cause of the Canon B200 error?

At its most basic level, a B200 error indicates a faulty printhead. Printhead is the part that actually distributes the ink from the cartridges to the paper, which means it is one of the most important parts in the entire printer.

Printheads are notoriously problematic, especially on cheaper printers, so a B200 error means there is some problem with the printhead that the printer reads as a catastrophic error.

How can I fix the Canon B200 error?

There are several ways to fix a failed printhead. Try these fixes before proceeding to replace the entire device.

1. Reset Printer. Turn off the printer and leave it unplugged for at least 30 minutes. Sometimes a good reset can help, as it allows the printer to cool down and put everything back in the correct position when turned on.

2. Remove all obstacles. There is a possibility that something is disrupting the connection to your printhead. Open your printer door and the print head should move so you can access it. Gently unplug it and take it out of the printer.

The note: There is usually a lever on the printer head that you press to remove it.

3. Clean the print head using your PC maintenance options.

4. Manual head cleaning. Use pure alcohol or an oil-free cleaner to clean the gold contacts on the print head. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the cleaner on the contacts, then let it dry a little to dry completely before reconnecting.

Caution: The printheads are very fragile - handle them with care!

5. Remove old ink. Cured ink may have gotten inside the print head. Rinse them with distilled water until the water comes out clean. Wipe dry with a paper towel, then insert the head into the printer.

6. Reinstall printer drivers. Find your device on official page Canon Support and follow the instructions to update your drivers.

7. Try a new ink cartridge. Defective cartridges rarely cause this error, but it can happen. Refer to the user manual for this process for your specific device.

8. If none of the above methods work to fix error B200, it's probably time to go shopping for a new printer.

The note A: Although it is possible to find the right part and install it, the cost of a new printhead will be about the same as buying a brand new printer.

Every owner of a Canon inkjet printer (regardless of its model) sooner or later encounters the B200 error, which occurs a little more often in devices that use printheads rather than cartridges. Below will be described ways to solve this error so that you can solve the breakdown yourself, without calling the wizard to your house. But please be careful and careful with the technique. When does given error, Canon recommends turning off the device and contacting the nearest service center in your city. As you can imagine, it is beneficial for them, but not for us. Error b200 Canon

The first possible solution to this situation is to simply remove the ink cartridges for a while. You need to take them out for about an hour, and you should also turn off the printer. Then you need to move the printer carriage to the center and turn it off.

When you unplug the printer and remove the cartridges, the printer will cool down a bit, and it's even better if you unplug the printer so it doesn't continue to run electric current.

When this happens, there is a possibility of damage to the cartridges and burnout of the printer's circuits. Read the Inkjet Cartridge Electronics Maintenance Guidelines. If you have any problems on this topic, please contact us via a comment on this article.

If you follow this procedure and put the cartridges back and the problem persists, carefully inspect the cartridge connectors and you will see that they are burned out. . see picture of cartridge connectors.

The second possible solution has to do with the printhead and the carriage that moves the ink cartridges. We know that the printer carriage can sometimes be a problem for it. The problem is that the PGs fill up with ink, so it's a good idea to clean the printer connectors. If you need help, just leave a comment on this article and we will be happy to answer you.

When this error occurs, the following window appears before the user:

Also this error can be in English:

Of course, you must understand that the language does not affect the solution of the problem in any way. Now let's get down to solving this issue.

You can also see this error on printer displays:

When this error appears, the printer behaves unusually - the indicators on the device panel blink alternately yellow and green. Canon thus makes it clear to the user that there are problems on your device - error B200. Also, this error is called "VH monitor error" - a problem with the power of the print head, or it is possible that some kind of cartridge is not working for you. In other words, this is a kind of signal that there is a problem in the print head or in one of the cartridges. In addition, when this error appears, it may be a signal that the power supply is broken, but the latter problem does not occur often, and we can say for sure that if this is the snag, then you are lucky.

Canon devices may notice that you have installed a non-original cartridge and therefore you receive a B 200 error. If you recently bought a cartridge or if you knew it was Chinese, then it makes sense to try inserting an original cartridge and see how the device reacts.

It is also necessary not to exclude that even if the cartridge is guilty and you replaced it, then your head may fail, which overheated and burned out during the use of a non-original cartridge. After replacing the cartridge, you may be lucky and the error will disappear. It remains to be verified.

In the event that you have empty cartridges, you must definitely refill them!

Another very important point is cartridges. If your device has 2 cartridges, then remove them from the printer and insert them into the device one by one. If you get an error when connecting one of the cartridges, then one of them is faulty.

A quick way to solve a problem

  1. After error B200 appears, turn off the MFP;
  2. Open the lid, move the carriage as much as possible to the left;
  3. Press the power button 5 times. (without waiting for full on / off);
  4. Close the lid after the last push.

flushing

This method is not suitable for all Canon printers and MFPs. After reviewing this instruction, you will understand whether this method can be performed on your device. Now watch the video for ordinary users who do not have special devices:

Sorry, these videos are in English. But in any case, the video shows what needs to be done.

Initial diagnosis

First you need to diagnose your printer in order to know for sure what is wrong with it. A power supply problem is often identified by visual inspection. Capacitors on a failed PSU will be swollen. Just in case (if visually everything is fine with the unit), you can also measure its voltage at the control board connector.

At the time the printer is started (when you press the power button), the voltage indicator should be in the range of 0.5 s with 24-32 V data, which is quite normal for this device. Another way to test the PSU is to connect it to a Canon printer that is guaranteed to work. But here you should be careful. In no case do not connect a working unit to a printer with a broken B200, because if the print head or control board burned out in it, then the new PSU will suffer the same fate. In order not to break 2 devices at once, we ask you not to do this.

If, however, when checking the block, a breakdown was not revealed, then you need to remove the print head from the printer and look at the monitor. Does error B200 still occur? This means a malfunction in the control board and not very good news - you may also have burned out the controller with the print head. The saddest thing is that if you buy these devices, the amount will be equal to the cost of a new Canon printer or MFP, which means that going to the store for a printer is inevitable.

Another thing is if after you took out the print head, the error disappeared, and a new message on the monitor informs you that the printer does not have a head that needs to be installed for its further work. This means that the control board is most likely (not 100%, but still) working properly and the problem is exclusively in the print head.

If such an error appeared in the MFP, is it possible to “save” at least the scanner?

In Canon devices, with a B200 error, you can do the following - you need to close up all the contacts of the PG (see the figure below) with electrical tape (but just do not use transparent tape for this purpose), after which the controller will not receive signals about the breakage of the sensors and it will start counting the print head serviceable. This will save you from the B200 error and allow you to use the scanner (since the print head is not needed when scanning).

The trick here is that if at least one sensor fails, the Canon controller will perceive the entire system as faulty. When sealing the contacts with insulating tape, we get the opportunity to use at least a scanner. In the picture below, we showed how many contacts need to be sealed with electrical tape and also wrote how many contacts are in the shaded area. It must be glued as in the picture:

Individual cartridges can still print

When your contacts have been sealed, you can carefully remove pieces of electrical tape, releasing one of the contacts, and install the head into the device each time. If an error occurs, we return the tape to the newly peeled contact and continue the same manipulations with other contacts. So we will eventually come to a situation that only non-working contacts will be sealed with us, while serviceable cartridges will print.

After doing the manipulations described below, the device will stop showing error B200 after a couple of days, and maybe after 15 minutes. It should be noted that when using this option, the device can work from 2 weeks to 1 year.

Below are pictures that show which contacts you can try to glue.

1. If you seal these contacts with electrical tape, you can print with a black cartridge:

2. If the device works with this option, then you can only print with color cartridges:

3. In this case, you can print in black and color:

4. And the last option is black and colored:

Note: There is a video below showing how this is done.

Is it possible to avoid error B200?

There is an opinion that the breakdown of the controller, PG or PSU occurs due to power surges, so it is highly recommended to use an UPS (uninterruptible power supply) that has a voltage regulation function. In addition, the following can often lead to an error: refilling cartridges with ink of dubious quality, installing a PG that has not yet dried after washing, and printing with empty cartridges.

It is worth noting that it is difficult to keep track of the ink level in branded cartridges, because. they are made of opaque plastic (for this reason, you should not turn off the ink level control function). You can, of course, install a continuous ink supply system, but not all users agree to this procedure.

Summing up

If the solution options that are described here did not help you, then you should think about finding a service center that can help you. Even if they do not help, they will tell you what the reason is, and you will start from this figure - make a device or buy a new one.

Finally, let's say that if you have a B200 error, then this is very, very bad, since most often repairs will be extremely costly and will not always be effective. Before you go to the store, do not panic and try the above tips and tricks. It is quite possible that it is your problem that will be solved with “little blood”. Good luck to you!

If you have such an error, then please write a comment at the bottom of the article with the following information: printer model, how long have you been using the printer and after which the error appeared.

All Canon MP540, MG5340, Pixma, IP4840, MP550 and MG5140 printer models have a print head. It is she who sometimes fails. In some cases, the cause may be a malfunction of the power supply due to a burnt control board.

When a Canon printer issues a B200 error (photo), a corresponding inscription is displayed on the monitor explaining the loss of connection with the machine and the need for the owner of the device to contact the services of a service center.

What will be discussed:

Causes of printer failure

Among the main prerequisites leading to error B200, it is worth highlighting two main ones:

  • Malfunction of the power supply during the combustion of the main board;
  • Short circuit inside the writing head.

Thus, the device most often breaks due to a sharp voltage drop. You can visually determine the breakdown of the power supply by swollen capacitors. If external signs are invisible to the eye, it is required to measure the standard voltage at the control board connector. The serviceability of the power supply is checked by connecting the latter to a third-party working device.

In rare cases, the presence of a breakdown indicates a factory marriage. Canon treats its customers in good faith, so you should immediately contact service center to fix the identified error.

You can solve the problem by buying and installing a new spare part, but the cost of a writing head is comparable to purchasing a whole printer with a small difference in price. Therefore, many users prefer to resolve the issue on their own through simple manipulations.

Solving the problem with the writing head

Canon printer error B200 indicates that the device does not see the print head. To resolve such an error, you will need to determine the root cause.

The writing head can fail for several reasons:

  • Poor contact between the head board and the carriage in which the cartridges are inserted. In order for the device to work properly, the consumer should remove the head and clean it thoroughly with a quality eraser. Some owners of printing devices, removing ink residues and accumulated dirt, use a soft cloth soaked in an alcohol solution. At the end of the procedure, you need to dry the head with a dry cloth. Having put the element in place, you need to reset the ink sensor, restart the printer and reconnect it to the computer.
  • Short circuit in the head. In this case, you need to disable the part of the microcircuit in which the failure occurred. This is easy to do even at home. It is enough just to figure out which parts of the circuit do not allow the printer to work normally. In order to restore the ability to print, you will need electrical tape, scissors and attentiveness.

Writing head device

In working order, the controller used in Canon's MP540, MG5340, Pixma, IP4840, MP550 and MG5140 printers copes with its task thanks to contacts on the microcircuit, each of which is responsible for printing certain colors of installed cartridges. The diagram (photo) shows the correspondence of the contacts marked with numbers to a specific color. So, when one or more contacts fail, the entire system diagnoses a general breakdown and displays the following message: B200 printer error.

Based on the above scheme, the user should seal with electrical tape that pair of contacts that prevent the device from functioning normally. An inexperienced consumer does not have the tools necessary for correct diagnosis. Therefore, you will have to act at random. Thus, one of the four contact groups on the microcircuit should be glued in turn, inserting the part into place. At the moment when the problem areas are isolated, the Canon MG5340 printer will stop giving error B200 and begin to function fully. It is very undesirable to use adhesive tape instead of electrical tape, since such manipulation will entail the need for more expensive repairs.

Although such a simple and cheap method will return the printer to working capacity, it is worth remembering that damaged contacts are responsible for the color connection between the cartridge and the working device. Therefore, by sealing the selected group of contacts, many users observe the loss of a particular color or group of colors.

Four contact groups are usually turned off, conditionally divided by numerical value:

  • Black colors. The most unpleasant zone, since its damage excludes the possibility of black and white printing;
  • Blue and pink colors;
  • Blue, pink and gray colors;
  • All color cartridges (common wire).

To return the device to excellent quality, you can insert a cartridge of a different color. For example, instead of pink, install a black ink cartridge.

All of the above manipulations do not guarantee a long-term repair and do not allow the problem to be completely eliminated. Sooner or later, the Canon may finally break down, and you will have to provide expensive repairs or purchase a new device.

Prevention

In order to eliminate the B200 printer error on Canon MP540, IP4840, MG5140, Pixma and others, you should purchase an uninterruptible power supply. This solution will allow you to adjust the voltage in the network, reducing the risk of damage to individual contacts.

You should also constantly monitor the overheating of the printer, the presence of ink in the cartridges and do not refill the latter with cheap low-quality ink. The Canon MP540 and MG5340 models have an ink level control function. Disabling it is not recommended.

You can optionally install a continuous ink supply system on your computer, which will allow you to monitor the level of ink filling. In addition, the constant operation of the printer is undesirable. A gentle attitude towards the machine will not only eliminate the possibility of issuing an error B200, but also significantly extend the service life.

Many modern printers have a self-diagnosis function that allows you to signal the user, using special codes, about the occurrence of certain malfunctions. For example, if an error (support code) P08 (5200) appears when you turn on the Canon printer, this means that a printhead overheating. According to the instructions for the device, this error is considered fatal, and it must be taken to a service center. In addition, some "advanced" users are advised to throw away the device and buy a new one. But not everything is so sad, because in most cases the problem is solved by several simple ways.

In many Canon printers, the black-and-white printing process involves a color cartridge. Therefore, if the latter is over or dried up, you have to save it so that you can use black and white printing. There are printer models in which ink is used, in addition to printing, also as cooling for cartridges that heat up during operation. Therefore, if the ink runs out, error 5200 appears, which stands for "Cartridge Overheating".

This code often appears when using the machine only as a copier or as a monochrome printer (black and white). Over time, when there is no black ink left in the cartridge, it is refilled, forgetting the fact that color also wears out. Thus, the ink in it runs out, it starts to overheat, and error 5200 appears.

The main remedy

This troubleshooting method for error 5200 is suitable for MP series devices (mp250, mp270, mp280), and MG series devices (MG2140, MG2240, MG3140, MG3240). As mentioned above, the failure occurs due to overheating of the cartridge. Therefore, it is first required find the problem cartridge which is subject to overheating. This can be done by watching the status monitor displayed on the PC display. Both cartridges should be removed, after which, inserting them one by one, follow the readings of the program until the problem cartridge is found.

If both cartridges are installed in the printer, the monitor may display incorrect information. For example, the program reports that a color cartridge is faulty, but in reality the reason is black, and vice versa.

After detecting a problematic ink tank, it must be refilled if it was empty at all, or rinse well first and then fill in ink (if the tank contained some ink). It is also recommended to wipe the contacts located on the cartridge and the contacts located in the device carriage. If these procedures did not help, you will have to buy a new cartridge and change it, and in the future make sure that the container always has a sufficient level of ink.

Reset error through the service menu

This method is intended for diaper dump Canon printers and helps to eliminate error 5200. Its essence is as follows.

  1. The device must be switched off. Press the STOP/RESET button and while holding it, turn on the device with the POWER button.
  2. Continuing to hold POWER, after the power indicator lights up, press STOP / RESET 2 times and hold this button.
  3. Now the POWER key can be lowered, then release the STOP/RESET button. The LED will turn green. This glow indicates that the unit is in service mode.
  4. Next, press the STOP / RESET key 4 times and turn off the device.

After these steps, error 5200 no longer appears. This method can also eliminate the appearance of support code 5200 on the Canon mp 490 (mp495) printer. To reset the diaper counter in the Canon Pixma IP2700, the above method will not work. To do this, you can use this video. Despite the fact that the video is in a foreign language, all the steps to reset the diaper are clear.

A radical way to fix the error

There is another way to make the support code that indicates a printhead overheat disappear. It is recommended to use it if you are no longer going to use color printing. Do the following:

  • draw distilled water into the syringe;

  • remove the sticker located on top of the color cartridge;
  • under it you will see 3 circles through which you can refuel;
  • if there are no holes in the circles, they need to be drilled;

  • using a syringe with a needle, fill each hole with water until liquid begins to drip from the nozzle;
  • blot the nozzles with a tissue and insert the cartridge into the printer;
  • follow the procedure for resetting the diaper, as described above.

After these steps, the nozzles will cool down, and only black and white printing will be available to you.

If this method was also ineffective, and code 5200 continues to appear, you will need to replace the cartridge with a new one or replace the printing device itself, since the price of a new cartridge is almost equal to the price of a new Canon device.

Printer Error 5100

A message with a code of 5100 means that the controller has detected carriage movement problem. This trouble occurs in all Canon printers and MFPs of the MP, IP and MG series. Error 5100 may appear due to obvious obstacles that interfere with the normal movement of the carriage (torn pieces of paper, a loop from CISS, paper clips, etc.). Disconnect the MFP (printer) from the mains and carefully, in good light, check for obstacles along the carriage.

Move the carriage from side to side (with the device turned off) to determine what is blocking free movement. If you find foreign objects, remove them. If the carriage is dirty in the form of dried ink, remove it and wash it with warm soapy water using a soft sponge. Alcohol and other solvents must not be used. After washing, the carriage must be dried and reinstalled.

Also, code 5100 may appear when an printhead positioning problems. In this case, mechanical obstructions are not detected. Incorrect positioning may occur due to damage or ink clogging of the encoder. The latter is a plastic transparent tape with strokes applied to it. If there are ink stains on the tape, the device will not be able to position the carriage correctly and will generate an error 5100. This problem is “cured” by simply wiping the encoder tape with a damp and soft cloth. If the tape is damaged, it must be replaced.

Encoder tape

Often, the problem with carriage movement is eliminated by pressing the scan key on the MFP. In this case, after scanning, the carriage falls into place, and the message with the code 5100 disappears.

Another reason for the appearance of the coded message 5100 may be problems with parking, as a result of which the carriage is not able to move to the end position. Thickened and contaminated with ink and dust grease applied to the guides located in the parking unit can become an obstacle to parking. Therefore, they will require a thorough cleaning, followed by the application of a new lubricant.

Parking node

Please note that in order to get to the parking hub, you will have to partially disassemble the MFP (printer), and therefore you need to have skills in disassembling office equipment. If you are not confident in your abilities, it is better to entrust the cleaning of the printer to a specialist by contacting a service center.

Printer error e16

The support code e16 often appears on Canon printers and multifunction devices, both the MG and PM series and the IP series. This problem may appear after replacing the cartridge with a new one, or after a short period of time after starting to use a new device. The essence of the notification is that the controller had difficulty determining the amount of ink in the cartridge capacity.

To cancel the tracking of the amount of ink, do the following: hold for 5-10 seconds. STOP key (triangle in a circle). After this action, the printer (MFP) will no longer block printing, and monitoring of the level of ink in the containers will be canceled. However, while the machine is operating, the cartridge lights will flash.

Printer error B 200

This error is typical for devices that have a print head (PG), for example, Canon iP4700 or Canon iP4840.

The reasons for the appearance of a message with code B 200 are as follows.

  1. Power supply (PSU). Sometimes, due to constant voltage drops, the PSU fails. If during the inspection you saw swollen capacitors, then the error is caused by the incorrect operation of the PSU. In the case when swollen capacitors are not observed, you can check the voltage at the control board connector. To do this, when the print head is removed, press ON. If the PSU is working, then in a period of about ½ second, the device will show a voltage equal to 24-32 V, which is normal.
  2. Control board. If the power supply is good, then the health of the control board can be checked by removing the print head from the printer. If support code B 200 appears again, this means that the problem is in the control board. But most often, if the controller burns out, then the print head also fails. Replacing these parts is not financially feasible, since their cost is almost equal to the cost of a new device.
  3. Printhead. Good news if you removed the printhead and the B 200 alert went away. This means that everything is in order with the control board. In this case, if you have an MFP, you can make the device work only in scanner mode or print in separate colors, for example, only black.

Making the scanner work

A functional controller, when the printer is turned on, polls print head sensors. If at least one fault is detected, the entire system is considered faulty and an error message is displayed. In the figure below, you can see the purpose of the PG contacts, namely, what colors they are responsible for.

It is necessary with the help of electrical tape (adhesive tape cannot be used) to seal all the contacts highlighted in the figure, including the dotted line. If you insert the PG into the machine for printing, the controller will perceive it as serviceable, and the MFP will be able to use the scanner.

Printing with a separate cartridge

To find a SG malfunction, it is necessary to peel off one piece of electrical tape and insert the part into the device. This is done until the message with code B200 appears again. When this happens, put the last piece of duct tape you removed back in place. In this case, printing will be available only in the color that is not sealed.

Alternative way

In some cases, the following method helps to get rid of error B 200:

  • after the message with code B 200 appears, turn off the device;
  • open the cover of the device and move the carriage to the extreme left position;
  • press the power button of the printing device 5 times (do not wait until the device is completely turned on / off);
  • after pressing the ON button for the fifth time, close the cover of the MFP (printer).

After closing the lid, cleaning the print head. After cleaning is complete, print a nozzle check page.
