Apple has not changed the design of its iPad for a long time - if the model is in demand, then you should not resort to any changes. But after the resounding success of the iPhone X last year, it looks like the company is aiming to release an updated version of the iPad Pro “iPad X” in 2018.

Apple hasn't released details of the new model, but some information is starting to surface online. The most important of these is that on the next-generation iPad, the home button will be located in the same place as on the iPhone and integrated into the display.

It is still unclear where the iPad X will occupy in the line of tablets, because Apple has three models of tablets: iPad, iPad Pro and iPad mini.

iPad Pro 2018 release date (iPad X) in Russia (Sales start date)

The latest iPad Pro models were announced at last WWDC on June 5, 2017 and are available for purchase now. Of course, the next announcement should be expected this summer, but we hope that some additional information can be found in the usual spring press release: about the iPad mini 5, and the long-awaited .

On February 21, the French-language site Consomac reported that Apple had registered two new devices, described as tablets running the iOS 11 operating system, with the Eurasian Commission's database. New model identifiers are A1954 and A1893.

This indicates the imminent announcement of new models, similar to how the information about the iPhone 7 and AirPods appeared two weeks before the official release. The introduction of new models in March looks very likely, but it is not yet known if this will be a regular press release or a full-scale media event like in 2015 and 2016.

Sources cited by Bloomberg predict, on the other hand, that new iPads will be released more than a year after latest update iPad Pro. Presumably, this will happen in late summer - early autumn, in August-September 2018. This may mean that the new models, which are expected to be released at the beginning of the year, will be less significant.

What will be the price of the new iPad Pro 2018 (iPad X)?

The iPad X is likely to be an impressive gadget, but it doesn't come cheap either.

The 10.5-inch iPad Pro with 64GB of storage and Wi-Fi starts at £619 and the Wi-Fi + Cellular model starts at £749; £769 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with 64GB of storage and Wi-Fi and £899 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

Even if the iPad X has a screen size smaller than 12.9 inches, you should still expect it to cost closer to the premium model. Approximate price will start at £999.

The main design changes of the new iPad Pro 2018 (iPad X)

Apple is expected to make some changes to iPhone design X in 2018.

Bloomberg sources suggest that at least one of the new iPad models will feature a full-surface screen and move from Touch ID to Face ID.

The model will have a screen size close to 10.5 inches, but the removal of the home button will increase the screen size to 11 inches or keep it the same by reducing the thickness of the bezel around the screen.

Presumably, the screen will not be based on OLED. Perhaps this will be due to production difficulties (and supply shortages) in creating screens for the iPhone X.

“Modern iPad”

Speculation about the appearance of a "modern iPad", which was supposedly already in development, appeared after the appearance of the code for the new operating system. Apple had already used the definition of "modern iPad" before the iPhone X was reported, primarily to distinguish gadgets with a full screen display and Face ID technology from other smartphones released at the same time.

Appeared the first photos of the concept iPad Pro 2018 (iPad X)

It's still too early to expect photos or factory shots of the new model, but concept drawings are available. It should be understood that the drawings are submitted by people not associated with Apple and visualize rumors around the design of the new model.

There are several illustrations of the next iPad Pro model by Martin Hayek, which show the gadget with the expected full-surface screen, the home button missing, and a notch around the screen. He also provided several illustrations of the Apple Pencil in black and silver.

Specifications and new features of iPad Pro 2018 (iPad X)

Let's take a look at the internal changes in the new iPads.

CPU

The latest iPad models feature new A-series chips that are based on the same architecture as the iPhones introduced last year. For example, the A10 chip integrated in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus has 2 high-performance CPU cores, 2 cores, a 6-core GPU, and 3GB random access memory.

The A10X integrated into the iPad Pro has 3 high-performance processor cores, 3 cores, a 12-core GPU, and 4GB of RAM. Similarly, the new 2018 iPad models are expected to feature the A11X chip based on the A11 Bionic found in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

Citing information from Apple suppliers, the Chinese website MyDrivers claims that the A11X chip will have three high-performance processor cores (2 for A11), 5 cores (4 for A11), and will be 7nm thick using TSMC's manufacturing process. The thickness of the A11 chip is 10 nm.

It goes without saying that the new chip will feature more RAM and more GPU cores. It would be strange if this were not so.

Should I buy the iPad Pro 2018 (iPad X)?

It is up to you to answer this question. Ask yourself the question, for what purpose do you need this iPad? Is this purchase promising and justified? If yes, then Apple technologies will be waiting for you in September of this year, on the counter of the nearest store.

The new iPad Pro tablet was officially presented at Apple's presentation on October 30th. The tablet turned out an exact copy models from the iOS 12.1 code, received support for facial recognition technology, which turned out to be even more advanced than the flagship iPhone, a USB-C connector and a second-generation Apple Pencil smart pen with gesture support.

The main feature of the iPad Pro that catches your eye when you first look at the tablet is, of course, its display. A stunning 11" and 12.9" IPS panel with vanishing bezels is a true admiration for Apple's engineers. But the main thing is that they managed to make the display absolutely symmetrical, despite the TrueDepth system responsible for face recognition.

The heart of the tablet is the eight-core processor A12X Bionic. It is 90% faster than the previous generation, which allows it to be considered one of the most productive "gems" for personal computers.

Update: The official launch date for the iPad Pro 2018 is October 30, according to Apple's "Special Event" press invitation. In addition, there is growing evidence that the new tablet will receive USB port-C and also we got some interesting ideas about sizes.

The iPad Pro 3 is Apple's next major update, and now the company has all but confirmed that we'll see the tablet on October 30th by sending out invitations to an event on that date.

The new iPad Pro is set to showcase thin bezel screens in two sizes, and leaks also suggest it will use the iPhone X's True Depth technology for Face ID.

Of course, at the beginning of the year we saw a new entry-level solution focused on the educational segment, but if you are looking for a more powerful tablet to replace the current one or, you will get it soon.

Apple intends to make the iPad Pro series a "laptop replacement" for as many users as possible, treating its Pro series tablets as if they were touchscreen MacBooks. With iOS 11 (and now iOS 12) and accompanying tablet-focused software, Apple is getting closer to that vision.

Whether it's the iPad Pro 2018 or the iPad Pro 3, the new tablet will almost certainly remain expensive and still not a laptop replacement for absolutely everyone, no matter how hard Apple tries to convince us.

Will there be a new iPad Pro? It seems like this could be an interesting change of concept. Here are the details we've gathered from all this time of leaks, rumors and speculation. We've also formed the closest guesses as to price, release date, and various specs/features.

In pursuit!

  • What's this? The next flagship iPad tablet;
  • When to expect? Tuesday, October 30, 17:00 (MSK);
  • What is the price? Probably not less than $649 (39,000 rubles);

| iPadPRO 3 (2018): RELEASE DATE AND PRICES

The iPad Pro 3 comes out on October 30th, as Apple has already sent out invitations to a special event under that date.

This is not surprising as we expected the tablet to be released soon, not least because the new iPad Pro has been listed on the EEC (Eurasian Economic Commission), indicating that the device is coming soon.

We don't know when the tablets will go on sale yet, but whenever iPad Pro series tablets come out, they are subject to tax. high price. The iPad Pro 10.5 (the latest in the series) started at $649 (R42,000), so we think Apple will stick to similar pricing with the 9.7-inch models, the cheapest in the series.

| iPadPRO 3: DESIGN

  • Tiny panels around the screen;
  • No home button and headphone port;
  • The thinnest tabletApple;

One of the most recent iPad Pro 2018 leaks comes from a source that has provided correct data regarding Apple in the past, and now claims that the upcoming tablet will be just 5.9mm thick, but will lose the headphone port.

Also, we've currently seen a render purporting to showcase a 12.9-inch iPad Pro 3, you can check it out below.

Details include thin bezels and the absence of a home button or fingerprint reader, so Face ID is a must-have. But the bezels in the render are still quite large to eliminate the need for a notch.

We still get the metal back, four speaker grilles and one camera on the back, but something has changed - the Smart Connector has moved to the bottom (when the tablet is in portrait mode), there seems to be no more 3.5mm jack for headphones (which is consistent with rumors), and on the right edge there is an unidentified button.

The source adds that apparently the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) will come in at 280.6 x 215 x 5.8mm (or 7.77mm considering the camera bump on the back), making it smaller than the iPad Pro 12.9. (2017). The thickness is also in line with scattered rumors, so we're really counting on a very thin tablet.

We got the same numbers again from another source, who added that the iPad Pro 10.5 (2018) will measure 247.64 x 178.5mm, making the new tablet smaller than its predecessor.

Another render has surfaced, this time showing the iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) in a UAG case, you can see it below.

The details - including thin bezels and the Face ID sensor - match the materials above. However, the fact that the tablet is in a case suggests it may be out soon, as the case maker probably won't release a product or render until the device is ready.

| iPadPRO 3 (2018): DISPLAY

  • 12.9" and 10.5" models;
  • 10.5-inch model can be replaced by 11-inch;

While the range of the iPhone is now highly classified, the 2018 iPad Pro continues to be littered with leaks, with the edge-to-edge screen taking center stage.

Again, it's still possible that Apple will put a notch on the tablet's display, especially since iOS 12 moves part of the status bar to the left, leaving an empty space in the middle.

If Apple goes for an edge-to-edge screen design, the new iPads will be able to increase the display area, or keep the screen sizes to reduce the size of the case. This comes as a surprise to the sometimes bulky iPad Pro 12.9, and based on the information we've heard so far, shrinking the body of the 12.9-inch tablet is exactly what Apple did.

For the smaller 10.5-inch iPad, on the other hand, the new design could mean a slight increase in size, as we've seen a report claiming it will get an 11-inch display.

However, since Apple has just introduced a new size with the 10.5-inch model, we're not sure about further changes. We also expect the iPad Pro 3 to have a True Tone display with a 120Hz refresh rate, just like its predecessor.

| iPadPRO 3: CAMERA AND BATTERY

  • Front-cameraTrueDepth;
  • Better bokeh effect;

We don't expect big changes in the camera department. Apple continues to stick with the combination of 12MP and 7MP on the back and front, respectively, adopting the iPhone 8's sensors, which is a serious overkill for a tablet and should last at least one more year.

However, if the Face ID rumors are true, the tablet will likely get front camera with True Depth, much more like iPhone camera XS. It's still a 7-megapixel sensor, but with additional depth-sensing skills, making it a great solution for portrait mode (blurring the background).

There is no news yet regarding the iPad Pro (2018) battery, but we will be sure to include it in the article as soon as we know something.

| iPadPRO 3: OS AND PERFORMANCE

  • Tablet chipsetA12Bionic;
  • Operating system -iOS 12;

A source in the supply chain claims that the iPad Pro 3 will use the new A11X Bionic chipset with an 8-core processor. Given that iPhone smartphones XS is now running on A12 Bionic chipsets, this seems unlikely.

Most likely, the 2018 iPad Pro will use either the A12 Bionic or something newer and better, a chipset that hasn't been announced yet - perhaps the A12X Bionic or the A13.

Of course, the iPad Pro 3 will also roll out iOS 12, which is available now. This will bring gesture control to the tablet, as well as Siri shortcuts, group notifications, improvements to the augmented reality department, and more.

| iPadPRO 3: OTHER FEATURES

  • faceID;
  • Four speakers;
  • USBC;

You probably won't hear Apple officially calling the upcoming tablet "Modern iPad", but that's the name that was found in the iOS 11.3 code.

"Modern iPad" doesn't sound like much, but the phrase "Modern iPhone" was used before the iPhone X was released. The speculation is that the term might imply unusual innovations such as Face ID and the lack of bezels around the display.

Indeed, the idea that the new 2018 iPad Pro will allow users to unlock the device simply by looking at the tablet without using their hands is a rumor we've heard over and over again.

In fact, the tablet's Face ID setup interface was found in iOS 12 beta for iPad. In the same beta, we also found multi-user support for Face ID, a feature that will be much more useful on a tablet than on a phone.

We've also heard that Face ID on the iPad will use the same image signal processor as the iPhone XS and will work in both portrait and landscape orientations.

The same source claims that the iPad Pro 3 will be able to output 4K HDR to an external display using USB-C port, which is also rumored to be included in the tablet.

In addition, the 2018 iPad Pro is likely to get a new version of the magnetic connector for connecting accessories such as Apple's new Smart Keyboard.

And new Apple version The Pencil will apparently land with the iPad Pro 3.

Other existing features such as four speakers and the Smart Connector (each of which has been found in leaked images) will return again.

| WHAT DO WE WANT TO SEE?

Great, as current iPad Pro models remain very expensive, though they lack some of the key features or features of the competition. With that in mind, here's a list of the things we're most looking forward to with the iPad Pro 3.

WATER RESISTANCE

Apple has added water protection to its smartphones, but this option has not yet made its way to the company's tablets and, although it is less needed for tablets that are quite large, to fall into a mug and you will not use them in the rain.

But drinks are still spilling, people continue to use tablets while cooking or in the pool, so knowing that the iPad Pro 3 can survive water would be reassuring, especially considering its price.

PRODUCTIVITY INCREASE

Apple has been consistently pushing the performance potential of the iPad Pro, but in most cases it still can't match a laptop.

iOS just isn't a versatile enough solution even with , and accessories like the Smart Keyboard tend to be overpriced, which adds up to a mediocre experience. much better for the job.

What's more, lowering the price of accessories could help the tablet, along with further changes to iOS, which should be brought closer to the desktop. operating system. Complete software able to offer desktop quality like with Photoshop would also help. To some extent, this is beyond the power of Apple, but the company can make a deal with developers or simply make the platform more attractive to them.

PRICE DROP?

The iPad Pro is an expensive tablet, no matter what size you choose. Considering the amount of tech packed in, the value for money isn't the worst, but it can be hard to justify the cost, especially when there are cheaper tablets out there, given that it's not a complete laptop replacement.

As such, we'd like to see a price drop with the new iPad Pro 3, or at least (and most likely) previous prices, along with increased storage and new features.

SHARP OLED DISPLAY

The 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2 has a screen with a pixel density of 265 ppi, which is quite good, while the overall screen quality is high.

But on tablets, laptops, and phones, screens tend to be sharper, so we'd like Apple to raise the resolution, especially since the iPad is shaping up to be a prime candidate for 4K content.

And along with the new resolution, we would like to see new technology display, namely OLED. Apple has already used OLED panels for the iPhone X, so it's possible the iPad Pro 3 could benefit.

FACE SCAN

Apple debuted Face ID on the iPhone X, allowing you to simply look at the phone to unlock it. This means that there is no longer a home button, hence the possibility for the screen to grow in the same body size. These are all useful features that we would like to see with the iPad Pro 3.

BEST LIFE

iPad Pro 2 tablets don't suffer from bad timing battery life while you're using it primarily as a media device, but if you're planning on using it as a laptop, expecting anything more than 6-7 hours is overkill.

That's still not bad, but an extra two hours would really help, so whether it's a bigger battery or better components and software, we'd like Apple to add battery life to the iPad Pro 3.

NEW DESIGN

The iPad Pro is thin, light and stylish, but it looks more like an Apple tablet recent years, which is why we'd like a complete overhaul of the iPad Pro 3. Something new and exciting that might entice those who use older models and crave an upgrade.

It could be a glass back, a huge screen, no bezels, or anything new. But if there's one thing that Apple is great at, it's design, we believe it all depends on the task at hand.

It is expected that this month the company will hold another presentation, which will present the iPad Pro 2018 models. Mentions of new tablets have already been found in the beta version of iOS 12.1, and after that sources of the well-known portal 9to5mac shared interesting details about the devices.

It was noted that two versions of the iPad Pro 2018 are being prepared, each of which will be released in four versions. Most likely, we are talking about tablets in two sizes, with two options for internal memory and with support for Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + LTE. Regardless of the modification, all of them will differ in a number of interesting features, which are discussed below.

Edge-to-edge screen

igen.fr

The new 2018 iPad Pro models will feature displays with very narrow bezels. In addition, these are the first tablets to lose the Touch ID button. That is, the line will follow the path of the iPhone, abandoning fingerprint scanning in favor of Face ID.

The TrueDepth camera system required for facial recognition will be placed above the display, on the top bezel. There will be no cutouts.

Face recognition in any orientation

An interesting feature of the new tablets will be the ability to recognize faces in both portrait and landscape orientations. To unlock it, you will not need to turn the tablet over every time, the main thing is not to hold it upside down.

Remarkably, the Face ID setup process will be quite standard, just like on the iPhone. There will be no need to flip the tablet, allowing the camera to store more data.

Support for external displays

New iPads should get a USB Type-C port, which will allow you to output the image from the tablet to external displays in 4K HDR format. To control this function, a new panel will be available in the settings that allows you to control resolution, brightness, dynamic range and other picture parameters.

redmondpie.com

A new Apple Pencil is also reported. It will automatically connect to the iPad, just like connecting to an iPhone. For pairing, you no longer need to connect the accessory to the tablet through the charging port.

Magnetic connector

iPad Pro 2018 will have a new magnetic accessory port on the back. It is with its help that the tablet will connect with new version smart keyboard, which should be presented along with tablets, as well as some other devices.

Today, October 30th, Apple presentation, which I liked much more than the previous few. First, I very satisfied the release of the updated Mac Mini, and secondly, the best iPad has come out at the moment! In my opinion, this model is in some ways even a breakthrough and key in the history of the brand… Why? Let's take a closer look at it.

iPad now has a completely new design. Please note that the bezels around the screen have become noticeably smaller. To my delight, all the key elements like the camera are hidden on this frame. No terrible eyebrow that spoils many modern smartphones ... Also, the iPad has become 1 mm thinner and the design of the side faces has become more direct and strict.

Two iPad Pro models have been redesigned: regular and large. Now they can be distinguished as iPad Pro 11 inches and iPad Pro 12.9 inches. Please note that the screen has grown only in the first model - before it was 10.5. The display is updated and is called Liquid Retina. This is the display in the new iPhone Xr. It is considered not the most top-end display, because the iPhone Xs has Super Retina.

The resolution of the iPad Pro 11-inch is different (a headache for app developers) than the iPad Pro 10.5, but the pixel density is the same.

Since the iPad Pro no longer has a Home button, users will have to get used to the new gestures that iPhone X, Xs, and Xr owners are already used to.

Also in the iPad Pro added face recognition technology - Face ID, which works in any position of the iPad. Apple emphasizes that it is their technology that is most secure. Unlike competitors' solutions. Face ID lets you unlock your iPad or make a purchase online...

The processor in the new iPad Pro is A12X Bionic (only A12 in iPhone Xs for reference). This processor more powerful than the processors in most laptops presented on the market. A12X 2 times more powerful than the processors in the previous generation iPad Pro!

By the way, Apple at its conferences pays great attention to showing the capabilities of the iPad. For some, this is “filling up the airtime,” but if you look closely, the company is persistently promoting the idea to the masses that the iPad could well replace a work laptop. This time they showed Adobe features Photoshop CC coming to iPad in 2019.

For the best iPad, the best redesigned stylus! It recognizes touch: you can change the drawing tools in programs by touching the area at the bottom.

To pair with an iPad, you need to magnetize your Apple Pencil. Moreover, at this moment the stylus is charging ...

Apple also took care of the release of the new Smart Keyboard Folio.

The new iPad Pros no longer have lightning. From now on, USB Type C is the standard for charging and syncing. Through this port, you can connect a camera or monitor to the iPad Pro. USB-C also allows you to charge a connected phone through a wire.

In the new iPad Pro, the front camera does not shine with special characteristics: it is suitable for selfies, video communication. It's all good old 7 megapixels. But the Portrait mode, portrait lighting, as well as Animoji and Memoji, previously available only in the iPhone X, etc., were added to the functionality.

The rear camera has 12 megapixels and allows you to take cool pictures and record videos in 4K. BUT! Exactly the same camera is in the old iPad Pro 10.5, so there should not be any revelations when you first meet the camera.

You can also find a strange moment on the Apple website: optical image stabilization has disappeared somewhere from the camera. :(There was also a six-lens lens, but it became a five-lens lens. I'm not a professional in photography, but apparently the camera has become slightly worse.

And now attention! Let it be expensive, but in the new iPad Pro there is a variation of the 1 Terabyte model!

In terms of communication modules, the three most important modules have been improved:

  • Now WiFi simultaneously can support two bands 2.4 and 5GHz.
  • The LTE module is now referred to as Gigabit Class LTE (29 bands).
  • Bluetooth is now version 5.0 instead of 4.2.

The new iPad Pros have support for eSim (an electronic SIM card built into the device). Appeared for the first time in the iPhone XS. Allows you to program it to work with different operators. How is this different from Apple Sim technology? The fact that Apple Sim is just a SIM card that is not tied to any operator, but eSim is a built-in small module.

Official prices for the new iPad Pro:

  • iPad Pro 11" 64 gigabytes - 65990 rubles
  • iPad Pro 11” 256 GB – 77,990 rubles
