[Tip] Change or remove built-in ringtones, notifications and system sounds on your Android smartphone

Every mobile phone, whether new smartphone with touch screen or old push-button telephone with candy, comes with some built-in (default) ringtones, notification sounds and system sounds, such as the sound clip you listen to when you turn on/off your mobile phone when you connect your mobile to the charger when you do a snapshot with a mobile camera when the battery is low, when you set the phone volume to full power, etc.

Some sounds such as phone ringtone, message notification, etc. can be customized and changed using mobile phone settings, but there are many sounds that cannot be changed or disabled unless you switch your mobile phone to silent mode.

This tutorial will help you with:

  • Change built-in ringtones, notifications, and system sounds
  • Add/remove/disable built-in ringtones, notifications, and system UI sounds
  • Disabling / changing phone startup (on) and off (off) animations and sounds

So, without wasting any time, you can start the tutorial:

DENIAL OF RESPONSIBILITY: This process is very advanced and dangerous. If you are a mobile expert and can set up/customize mobile phones easily, then follow this guide. We are not responsible for damage to your device after following this guide incorrectly, so use it at your own risk.

STEP 1:

First of all, you need to get root rights to your Android mobile phone to be able to change or delete the built-in ringtones and sound clips. You can learn more about rooting Android phones from the following links:

WARNING: Mobile correction android phone is a risky task and may void your warranty or damage your device. So root your cell phone only if you are sure and know what you are going to do with your cell phone.

STEP 2:

Now we need to install the root explorer application to view the firmware folders in mobile phone.

If you already have the root explorer app installed on your mobile phone, you can upgrade to STEP3.

If you do not have this application installed on your mobile phone, you can install the following application called " root browser”, which is free application:

We also used this app on our test mobiles and it worked flawlessly.

STEP 3:

Now we need to go to the "Media" folder, which contains all the built-in ringtones and notification sounds that the phone plays. To navigate to the Media folder, open the Root Browser app and navigate to the following folder:

system -> multimedia -> audio

Under " audio”, you will see the following folders:

  • Notifications
  • Ringtones

"Notifications» Contains all the audio clips you see when you try to adjust the notification sound in your phone settings. Sound clips are stored in OGG format. You can delete any audio clip you want or replace the existing .ogg file with any new .ogg file you want. If you wish, you can paste new .ogg files into this folder and this new sound will appear in your phone settings when you try to change the message notification sound.

"Ringtones”Contains all the built-in ringtones that you see when you try to customize your mobile phone ringtone through phone settings. As mentioned above, you can add, remove or replace existing .ogg files.

"ui”Contains all system sounds such as camera shutter sound, low battery warning, connection charger, dialer, keyboard type, power on/off, etc. You can delete any audio clip you want or replace it with any desired .ogg file.

PS: If you want to turn off a particular sound, such as the sound when the phone starts up (power on), or the sound when the charger is connected, instead of deleting the corresponding .ogg file, you can simply rename the file. This will immediately disable this sound in your mobile phone. In the future, if you want to turn this sound back on, you can rename this .ogg fie.

With an unsuccessful attempt to install your melody, many people wonder where ringtones are stored in android. For example, downloaded music is not displayed when you set a message tone, although it is in the device's memory.

Of course, you can relax and put a standard signal, but you always want to stand out and install something of your own.

Then for this you will have to create several folders, sort the music into these folders, but then you can put any song, even on a call, even on a message.

Where are ringtones for messages

  • To set your music to SMS notification, you need to create a “media” folder in the sdcard root, an “audio” folder in it, and “notifications” folder in it. In the last and throw the desired music.
  • Now open "Message settings", at the very bottom we find the line "Signal melody". Now not only standard sounds are displayed here, but also those that you put in "notifications".
  • Similarly, you can understand where ringtones for an alarm clock and a call are stored. In the first case, instead of "notifications", make "alarms", and in the second - "ringtones". Now every melody will have its place.

How to set a ringtone for a call

  1. In the main menu, find the "Music" section, in some versions it is called "Player".
  2. From the list of songs, select the one you want and hold your finger on it.
  3. From the drop-down window, find the line "Put on a call" and click on it.
  4. Now this song will play when someone dials your number.
  5. You can also select the sound for one specific contact. And when this subscriber calls you, a completely different melody will play on the phone.
You can also set the ringtone through the file manager. To do this, go to "My files", find the folder where the desired music is located. Hold your finger on the track, and soon a window will pop up suggesting "Use as signal".

By selecting this item, you will set your music to ring. The line "Use as a signal" on some devices is hidden under the guise of three vertical dots at the bottom of the screen.

Modern mobile devices equipped with flash cards delight their owners with the ability to significantly expand the amount of memory, including for downloading and listening to music.

In addition, many users are interested in how to remove native ringtones from their cellular device.

The ability to expand the memory depends on which particular phone model we are using, since they are all designed for different memory cards.

Well, what if our mobile device and does not support memory cards at all? In this case, the question of finding additional megabytes becomes quite urgent, and the removal of standard melodies and game applications will come in handy.

As you know, there is never a lot of memory on a mobile device. Its owner is regularly faced with the question of what else to remove. Unfortunately, getting rid of standard melodies is not so easy. How to do it?

Removal instructions

  1. To begin with, we go to the menu, look for a section with standard melodies and sound signals there, after which we try to delete them in the usual way. Unfortunately, not all models of mobile devices allow you to do this.
  2. If it is impossible to delete the standard melody on our device in the usual way, proceed to the next steps.
  3. We are looking for USB drivers in the delivery package for the phone and install them on the computer. There may also be programs for synchronization; also install them.
  4. If a installation disk and data-cable are missing, we purchase them separately and perform the indicated actions.
  5. We connect the mobile device to the PC via a USB cable and perform synchronization.
  6. Run the installed software and open with desktop computer menu with standard melodies. We remove them directly from there.
  7. Some models of cellular devices do not allow you to delete native melodies using a PC, but they allow you to replace them with smaller files.
  8. We create files and rename them in the same way as the standard melodies are called (not forgetting the extension). We copy them with the replacement of the original melodies.
But what if all the described methods turned out to be useless? As a last resort, you can try to re-flash your mobile device.

Phone firmware

  • Obviously, it is best to entrust this operation to professionals and contact a service center.
  • However, subject to certain skills, it is quite possible to do this on your own - however, there will still be a risk of causing irreparable damage to your mobile device.
  • Today on the net you can find any firmware we need without standard pictures, melodies and game applications. At the same time, we check its compliance with our phone model.
  • For firmware use special software. If, nevertheless, even the slightest doubt in one's own abilities remains, it is better not to take risks and do as described above - contact a specialist who will perform the necessary manipulations for a very reasonable amount.

Hello! Most recently, we set our own ringtone on the iPhone and, despite all the difficulties, we still managed to do it. But after all, the tastes of a person are constantly changing - for example, I'm already tired of the song that I just recently set to ring. I want, you know, something new!

Well, creating something new is not a problem (), but what about the old ringtone that is no longer needed? There are not so many options - keep or delete. If left, it will take up precious internal memory. Therefore, we will delete. And here again, Apple is not the way it should be for people.

Why? Because it's not serious at all...

You can't just take and delete a ringtone from your iPhone. Well, there is no such option in iPhone settings!

And how then to be? Now I will tell and show everything. Go!

We will consider only the official method (without jailbreaks and other nonsense). After all, jailbreak is practically "dead", and this method of deleting ringtones will live forever :)

As usual, in order for the information to be as truthful and verified as possible from personal experience, I will do all the manipulations with you.

So, I have two "extra" ringtones in my iPhone:

  1. Made and uploaded by myself via iTunes.
  2. Purchased from the official iTunes Store. The price, by the way, is 22 rubles! But for Kipelov, even "fifty dollars" is not a pity :)

Task: remove these ringtones.

Now let's just go!

Step 1 (connect iPhone to iTunes). There should be no problems here - we take the wire (preferably the original one), connect the iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Step 2 (very important point!). After launching iTunes, click on the phone icon in the upper left corner.

And then, at the very bottom, check the box next to the item "Process music and videos manually" and click "Apply".

Step 3 (Open Sound Control). We don’t go anywhere and look at the left side menu - we are interested in the “Sounds” line. We select it - a list of all ringtones that have been downloaded to your iPhone appears on the right.

Step 4 (remove ringtones). Right-click on any of these ringtones, select "Remove from Library" and click "Synchronize".

All! We take the iPhone in hand, open "Settings - Sounds, tactile signals - Ringtone" and we see that this sound is no more. Hooray! Although…

Some problems can always arise - where without them? :) And here's what you can do if the above instructions do not help:

  • Try installing a different build of iTunes. The fact is that latest versions programs (12.7 and "older") are "stripped down" - Apple removed a lot of features from them. Therefore, and already with its help we are trying to remove the ringtone.
  • Try to erase the sound using the same program through which it was originally downloaded to the iPhone. Because if the ringtone was set using third party program(for example, iFunBox), then iTunes may not be able to remove such ringtones.

Still nothing works? Well, you can always ask a question in the comments (preferably, describing your situation in more or less detail) - let's try to deal with the problem all together!

Are you tired of the standard notification sounds on your phone? Want something more exciting? Then you've come to the right place! Below you will find our tips on how you can change your Android notification tones.

Changing the Default Notification Tone on Android

All Android devices will play a notification sound by default unless a particular app uses a different sound. If you want to change the sound of notifications, you will need to follow these steps:

  1. Open Android settings.
  2. Click on the "Sounds and Notifications" section.
  3. Select Default Notification Sound.
  4. A list of different notification sounds will appear. Click on any option to listen to it and then click on the OK icon to confirm your choice.

Depending on the android versions and the manufacturer of the phone, the name of this parameter may be slightly different, or you may have to look elsewhere. For example, on the LG G4, which has Android 6.0 Marshmallow, you need to open the settings, then select "Sounds and notifications", then - "Ringtone".

Change notification sounds for apps

Apps like Facebook or Gmail have their own notification sounds and you can easily change them. Note that the procedure may differ depending on the application. Let's take WhatsApp as an example:

  1. Open the WhatsApp app.
  2. Click on the icon with three dots in the upper right corner of the display.
  3. Click on "Settings", then on "Notifications".

A list of different ringtones will appear. Select your favorite tune and then click OK. If you don't like the available sounds, you can also create your own variations.

Creating Your Own Notification Sounds on Android

Of course, you don't have to limit yourself to stock sounds - you can also create and use your own! Connect your Android smartphone to PC, open the main folder internal memory and then go to the Notifications folder. If for some reason this folder does not exist, you can create it. Copy your selected sound files to this folder and they will be selectable on your phone. In addition, you can also use the Zedge application, which has many free sounds for notifications.

Are you happy with your default notification sounds? Are you planning to create your own? Tell us about it in the comments.
