So, you decided to create a gif animation and only have a phone or tablet running Android at hand, this will be enough. Just need to install from Google Play app to create animation on Android, it is called GIF Camera (download link at the bottom of the page).

Functional

The application allows you to:

  • create animated GIF images from an additional camera
  • create animated gif images from gallery
  • view animated gif images

In addition, animation can be done forward and backward

How to create a GIF from a video using services:

Really not onlymake a gif from a video, but also images, however, in the second case the output is a regular slide. GIFs based on videos are interactive, “live” and more fascinating. All other things being equal, it is better to take video as a basis. The following services will help us create GIFs from videos.

Giphy GIF Maker

This is an online service that helpsmake a gif from a videojust a few clicks of the mouse. It also works with pictures. It is easy to use and has an intuitive interface. To use the application it is not necessary to even download the video, we can take the link to YouTube video and paste it onto the site. The service will download the video on its own, but at this stage you will have to wait a little.

Making gifs from an already downloaded video on the site occurs in a couple of steps:

  1. We select the desired segment of the video, which is added to the animation. We indicate the point to start recording the gif and its duration, thus specifying the content that should be included in the animation. After selecting a video segment, the preliminary result is shown in a video of a simple GIF.

  1. We set comments or captions for the animation. It is possible to change the style and color of the message.
  2. We indicate tags for our work. This is not at all necessary, but it is advisable if we want our animation to be found by other users of the Giphy service.

  1. We create animation using the “Create GIF” button.

If desired, we can insert the animation directly onto the site using the HTML code presented on the next page after creating the gif. It is also possible to download the file on the “Advanced” tab.

Among the disadvantages of the service: we can add only one signature, and there is no way to specify the size of the photo at the entrance.

Imgflip

A distinctive feature of the service is the availability of a greater number of settings. A significant drawback is that the service is focused on paid use. You can use it for free, but in this case the quality of the gif is not higher than 480 pixels. Good quality is only available after payment. Among the functional advantages: adding and managing text, cropping photos, changing video playback speed, viewing weight, removing a logo. It is possible to set the exact video capture time not only in seconds, but also in milliseconds.

The main drawback is that most of the necessary functions are available only in the paid version. The subscription price is $9.95 monthly.

How to make GIF animation on Android?

There is a good one for a smartphone with Android OSGIF maker- Gif Me! Camera . It helps you make GIFs directly from photos, videos, or specially record videos for animation.

How to make a GIF animation on Android:

  1. Install the application from Play Market.
  2. We launch the program and immediately get to the main application menu. Here we select the source from which we take the material to create the gif. The program supports importing a newly recorded video, another GIF file, or a clip from the phone's memory.

  1. After selecting a video, a menu appears with basic settings for creating a GIF. Here we set the time period from the video that will be used to create GIF animation. Typically this animation lasts a couple of seconds and then repeats. It is important to accurately specify the length of the video. There are also settings for the number of frames, playback speed, and resolution. We do not recommend making GIF animation in a large extension; it takes a long time to load and wastes a lot of mobile traffic.
  2. When all the settings are set, all that remains is to click on the “Create” button. After completion of the work, the finished file will be displayed in the gallery.

  1. To send the animation, click on our work once. Several icons will appear, click on the one on the far right with a down arrow and select the application.

Making a GIF on iPhone

The iPhone also has a similar animation app called Workflow. If your phone has iOS 11 or later, you can create GIFs from screen recordings; the desired function appears after opening the curtain.

GIF animation on iPhone using Workflow:

  1. Download the application from iTunes.
  2. In the program, click on the button with the plus sign.
  3. Go to the “Gallery” page and click on the magnifying glass image.
  4. Enter gif into the search bar and select the found result “Convert Video To GIF”.
  5. Click on the “Get Workflow” button, and then “Open”.
  6. We give the application access to the videos.
  7. We indicate basic settings GIF creation: number of videos, video trimming, looping, window size.
  8. We initiate the GIF creation procedure with the Play button.
  9. Trimming the video.
  10. If you are satisfied with the result, click on the “Done” button.

Is it true that creating a GIF on a PC and smartphone was not difficult? This can be done by any computer or phone user, even with minimal skills. The main condition for a good gif is the correct selection of material, and the implementation itself fades into the background. You can share your work in the comments.

A lot of the things we use our smartphones for involve photos and videos in some way. We all want to get the best results from the cameras in our gadgets, and we want to find the most convenient way to store photos.

What else should every mobile photography enthusiast know? How to make a GIF, of course!

To begin with, keep in mind that the result (and the application used) will greatly depend on the source material. It makes a difference whether you're making a GIF from a series of photos, a video, or a live photo taken on a brand new iPhone, or maybe you want an app that can write GIFs right away?

It would be possible to give detailed instructions, how to create a GIF, but you are unlikely to need it, because progress does not stand still. Thanks to the kind developers mobile applications, you can do it in three simple steps:

If you want to not only create GIFs, but also search for them, you need Giffage. The app proudly calls itself the world's first "universal GIF keyboard" and lets you search for great GIFs by keyword or category, save them to your device, and share them with friends.

And, of course, create GIFs yourself. The application uses the library and all GIPHY categories, but, if desired, you can create your own category to access your files. Available for iOS only.

4. Giffer

Giffer claims it's the best thing to ever happen to GIF on iOS. The application has very flexible settings and allows you to create cinematic GIFs, looping (forward and even backward) GIFs, GIFs from a series of photos, time lapses, slideshows and much more.

You can even import and edit a GIF from the Internet, iTunes, or your photo feed using all the features above. You can then show off via email, SMS, Tumblr, Facebook or Twitter.

5. GiFmojo

An excellent iOS application for those who want to not just create a GIF, but add or remove photos from it, change the order of frames, or run the animation backwards. A great choice if you want to get creative when creating your GIFs.

Easily saves copies of your results so you can show them to friends on any social network of your choice. Or just post it on the Internet.

6. GIPHY CAM

Another cool application for iOS from the most popular GIF search engine. With its help, you can record a looped GIF or make one from five consecutive photos.

Afterwards, you can add various filters, layers and effects (more than 40 to choose from). Once you've finished with the file, send it via SMS to a friend or post it on Instagram.

7. Live GIF

What if you don’t need anything other than turning live photos into GIFs? Try Live GIF! Of course, it is designed only for iOS, and allows you to share the result in iMessage and a whole bunch of your favorite social networks. In addition to converting a live photo to GIF, the application allows you to turn it into a video.

8. Motion Stills

Another great choice for those who like to make GIFs from live photos. Google is behind this iOS app, making sure you can send the coolest GIFs to anyone, however you want. Makes it possible to select a live photo from the gallery, playing their animation (and even with improved stabilization!). Allows you to combine multiple sources.

9.PHHHOTO

Comes to the rescue when you need something simpler. The app is available for Android and iOS and makes it easy to create and share GIFs. It has the ability to apply filters and use different shooting modes.

Of course, it can send files to all popular social networks.

GIF animation remains one of the most convenient formats for posting short videos on the Internet. It does not require special hosting. GIF is easily integrated into almost any web page, it can be posted on the forum and on most social networks. Creating GIFs from videos is a simple process. There are many programs on the Internet that allow you to convert videos of any format into an animated GIF in just a couple of clicks. And this does not include online conversion services. In our selection of programs for converting video into animated GIF, there are solutions for every taste, simple and compact, advanced and free.

We decided to not just review programs for GIFs from videos, but also test each one so that we could evaluate their quality of work. For testing, we used two videos shot on a smartphone. One with a resolution of 1920x1080 in 3GP format, the second - 1280x720 in MP4 format.

Using video to GIF converters, we tried to cut out the first 4 seconds from videos lasting several minutes and convert them into GIF no more than 500 pixels wide. Agree, the task is quite real: a person shot a funny video on his phone, wants to quickly reduce it, convert it into an animated GIF and post it on the Internet.

MovAvi Video Converter 16 – program for GIF animation from video

  • License: Trial.
  • Size: 47.9 MB.

MovAvi Video Converter 16 is an excellent multimedia processor for converting various files. An animated GIF is far from the only purpose of the program. It supports dozens of formats and, accordingly, mutual conversion between them: video 3GP, 3G2, ASF, AVI, DivX, DVD, FLV, M2TS, TS, MTS, M2T, MKV, MOV, QT, MP4, M4V, MPG, MPEG, MPE, M1V, VOB, DAT, MOD, TOD, VRO, MXF, RM, RMVB, SWF, WebM, WMV, WTV, audio AAC, AIF, AIFF, APE, AU, SND, FLAC, M4A, M4B, MP3, OGG , Opus, WAV, WMA, graphics APNG, BMP, DPX, GIF, JPEG (.jpeg, .jpg, .jp2, .jls), Netpbm formats (.pam, .pbm, .pgm, .ppm), PCX, PNG , PTX, SGI, TGA, TIFF, WebP, XBM, XWD. Accordingly, the program understands dozens of different codecs.

The work process looks very simple. Upload the source file, select the target format and its settings, and click start. The conversion is very fast. Upon completion, a fanfare sound is heard and a window opens with a folder containing the finished GIF or other file.

The target format can be selected arbitrarily, as well as by presets. They are created taking into account the requirements of certain types of devices (smartphone, tablet, etc. on different software platforms), or tasks (video for the Internet, high-definition video, TV, etc.). There is auto-conversion for popular sites.

The GIF is in the Images tab. Available in several sizes. Our 500 pixels wide ended up being an “average GIF”. To cut a piece of video you need to set marks. This can be done in the preview window.

Among the shortcomings, we note overly intrusive requests to activate or purchase a license during the trial period. The program constantly opens something in the browser, throws out additional windows, etc. Additionally, “free” GIFs come with an unsightly watermark. So, you will have to pay for MovAvi Video Converter 16. However, it looks like it's worth it.

And the GIF video from this program looks like this:

Any GIF Animator – video to GIF converter

  • License: Free.
  • Size: 20.5 MB.

A simple and free utility to convert video to animated GIF. It claims to support most major video formats, but for some reason it didn’t want to open our test videos.

The conversion process looks simple. The settings are on the right side of the window. You can select the frame rate, frame size, and time to be converted. You can make a looping GIF, or you can disable circular playback. The program also allows you to crop the frame from the top, bottom, right and left. Thus, the user gets the opportunity to crop his video. Overlay effects include enhancing brightness, contrast, and saturation. You can add text over the image.

Video To GIF 5.1 – create GIF from video

  • License: Trial.
  • Size: 12.2 MB.

Video To GIF 5.1 overall leaves a good impression. The program looks quite nice. The interface is simple and well thought out. First, upload the video. The program quickly indexes it and creates a preview. Here, by placing marks, you can determine the piece to be converted.

Next, at the bottom of the screen, we sequentially select: size, effect (from converting to a monochrome image, to inverting colors, not to mention brightness correction), number of frames per second and target format. In addition to animated GIF, you can make a static one, or take individual frames from the video in the form of JPG, TIFF and other graphic formats. Next, click on the Convert button. Video formats supported are AVI, MPEG, MP4, WMV, MKV, MOV, VOB, WebM, RMVB.

Video To GIF 5.1 is slower than MovAvi Video Converter 16, but overall the time spent on conversion is at an acceptable level.

Disadvantages include a watermark on GIFs made by the trial version, as well as the overly high price of the program. The developer wants $19.9 for it. This is more than twice as much as MovAvi, despite the fact that the latter can convert anything at all into any format.

Finally, an example video:

Cute Video to GIF Converter – convert video to GIF

  • License: Free.
  • Size: 5.65 MB.

The program supports all major video formats: AVI, MP4, WMV, ASF, MPG, DAT, 3G2,3GP, FLV, F4V, MOV, MKV, RM, RMVB, SWF, VOB, WEBM.

It is also quite simple to use. Load the video, then select the desired piece. To do this, you need to position the cursor at the desired places in the video and press the Trim Start and Trim End buttons. Then select GIF settings. Unfortunately, you cannot choose the image size arbitrarily.

You have to be content with presets that match different screen resolutions. Our 500 pixels were not in the settings. I had to choose between 640x350 and 320x240. During the conversion process, the program opens a preview window and cuts out images from the video “frame by frame”, and then combines them into an animated GIF. The conversion is very slow.

In addition to converting to GIF, the program allows you to cut out individual frames, as well as collect GIF frame by frame.

The final result of Cute Video to GIF Converter looks like this:

Freemore Video to GIF Converter – convert video to GIF

  • License: Free.
  • Size: 828 KB.

Freemore Video to GIF Converter. When installing, you download not the program installation package, but the download manager. Besides free utility, he will offer to download and install additional software. You have to be careful, otherwise you may accidentally receive a package of junk programs from Yandex and Mail.ru on your computer.

When you launch the program, it also pops up a window asking you to upgrade it to the paid version. It hangs for a few seconds on top of all windows.

The interface is very simple. Just a few buttons. First, open the video. A dialog box with conversion settings immediately pops up. Select the beginning of the segment, the end of the segment that needs to be converted. GIF settings are just presets, like Cute Video to GIF Converter.

Freemore Video to GIF Converter works quite quickly. The processing log of each frame is displayed. The GIF is placed in the same folder where the original video is located. The result looks like this:

Click on the picture to watch the video

Instagiffer - how to quickly make GIF from video

  • License: Free.
  • Size: 22.5 MB.

Instagiffer left a pretty good impression. The program supports all major video formats, allows you not only to convert it into an animated GIF, but also to capture individual frames.

We upload the video, the program indexes it. In the preview window on the right side of the window, you can visually crop the video. It is very comfortable. On the left side there are settings. Select the start time of the segment for conversion. Set its duration. Then we select the number of frames per second in the animated GIF. Its size is set as a percentage of the size of the original video. The size of the target GIF in absolute numbers can be controlled under the preview window. You can also choose the compression quality, increase or decrease brightness, and apply effects.

The program works quickly. However, it is worth noting that the visualization of the processing process is not very successful: progress takes place three or four times, so it is not clear at what stage the conversion is actually at.

The KickMyGrapihcs interface leaves much to be desired. The colors are so bright and variegated that it’s time to worry about people with epilepsy - with such an interface you can provoke a seizure.

When loading a video for conversion, the program launches a cmd.exe window and begins indexing the video frame by frame. So, if you have a large enough video, for example, several minutes, then you can get ready and go to the store, or go for a run - the process takes a lot of time.

After indexing, you can select the settings of the target GIF and convert to it. You can also rotate the image, stretch it, pan, skip frames, etc. In a word, it’s a good editor, which, of course, is better suited for recording screen video in GIF format and then working with it.

Unfortunately, the program couldn't cope with our videos.

Movie to GIF - how to create GIF animation from video

  • License: Free.
  • Size: 6.5 MB.

Movie to GIF is another simple and free program to convert video to animated GIF. The interface is ascetic, but convenient.

Select a video and load it into the program. In the preview window, you can select the beginning and end of the segment for conversion; for this, use the corresponding buttons.

The program allows you to select the GIF size as a percentage of the original video. In this case, the real GIF resolution is displayed right there. You can shrink the video, stretch it, or trim it. You can also select the GIF playback speed, frame rate and color.

Working with Movie to GIF did not raise any questions, except that the conversion is very slow, and the output is this:

Click on the picture to watch the video

Conclusion

Movavi and InstaGIFfer left the best impressions. The programs make good GIFs, work fairly quickly, and have a user-friendly interface. However, you will have to pay for Movavi.

Also good quality Movie to GIF turned out to be a GIF, but the slow speed of work raises complaints.

The impression of Freemore was spoiled by attempts to install junk software, but overall the program also performed well.
